Late Monday, the NFL Network accepted Time Warner Cable's offer to deliver its programming as a "freeview" to customers of the MSO between Dec. 24 and Dec. 30.
The offer is available to Time Warner Cable's New York DMA subscribers via a digital basic tier, giving subscribers access to the Rutgers/Kansas State bowl game Dec. 28. In a statement, NFL Network said 75 percent of Time Warner Cable's New York-area customers subscribe to the digital basic tier, and "we have concluded that its offer represented the quickest and best way to bring Rutgers' appearance in the Texas Bowl to Time Warner subscribers and to make the freeview a reality," the network said.
NFL Network said it would extend the same free viewing of its programming to subscribers of Time Warner Cable in Kansas and Texas, given that both states have universities participating in bowl games NFL Network will telecast. The New York resolution is not tied to the additional freeview offer in Texas and Kansas, the all-football channel said.
