NFL Package and no signal...HELP!!!

938 Views 11 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  vikefan
Anybody have ideas for setting up a dish on my porch. We are on the side of our building and have sort of an odd shaped balcony (Trees and an overhanging roof). We rent and can't attach anything permanent to the wall or balcony. I have a tripod but it can't pick up the signal and need to sit on top of the balcony wall without being anything drilled into. Any ideas? Football season is fast approaching and I need my NFL package. Life would have less meaning without seeing my Vikings play every week...pictures or suggestions are welcome. Thanks....

Could we get some pictures of your balcony? (I know is night time, maybe tomorrow)

Are you sure you have a southern view?

Thanks

Definetely have a southern view. If you hold the dish on top of the balcony, the signal picks up. My problem is that I can't figure out a good way to sit the dish there. I have attached a pic of our floor plan...

some people are putting a pole in a bucket filled with concrete and that seems to work well.
What kind of railing is on the balcony, and how sturdy is it.

You can rig up some u-bolts along with a bracket of some sort to "clamp" a pole to the railing if it is sturdy enough. I think there may even be a product out there that does that.

he said hes not allowed to attach to the balcony. the bucket and concrete with pole is really his only option.

Nah, nothing permanently. So U bolts should be ok.
Here is a product that may work.

Otherwise, do a search for "balcony mount" and you'll find plenty of threads with dozens of ideas.

It seems your biggest issue is gaining a little bit of height, someone showed one in bucket but then they used monopoles clamped to the railing for stability.

Good luck.

I know when i was a kid, my dad would make me hoold the antennae and tin foil so he could see his bears when we were camping. So holding the dish seems ok to me.
I'll check out the site and search for balcony mounts..Thanks!!
What we do from time to time is use a spare mast, take of the pipe part and use the base to mount the dish. Regular mast on the outside, base on the inside and then use 4 long bolts. Cheap and easy.
Go Vikings,
Your gonna love this season! I've had ST since DTV has offered it. I haven't missed a game yet!
