I just saw on my online bill I am being charged $41.50 for the NFL package and I never ordered it! Is this a normal billing practice for Direct. I have only been a customer since Dec 2007. I am outraged that they can just add something to my bill without my consent. I will be calling to cancel this. That by itself infuriates me that I have to take action to avoid this charge.

When you first signed up I'm guessing part of your package deal included Sunday Ticket (at least the remainder of that season). All sports packs are autorenewing in nature - so since it was on the account in '07 the system auto added it for this year. Just give them call and tell them you don't want it. They should remove it from the account and credit your bill for the $41.50.

If it was part of your signup...its actually designed as a convenience as a renewal service....anyone can cancel with a call....not a big deal.

That rate, by the way, is below the general mainstream price....so do what you have to....but don't plan on getting that price once you cancel.

I would wager that it took longer to post the message than it would to call D* and get it cancelled.

As others said, it was probably part of your package when you signed up. I know it's hard for a lot of people that read forums like these, but D* really does not gain anything by pissing off their customer base (and they know that). Mistakes happen and when they do, D* is pretty good about straightening them out. It costs D* more to straighten them out than they would gain by customers not catching it. I can virtually ensure you that it is not a D* policy to try to 'slip on by'.

There are other, more valid things to gripe about with D*. But to compare them to "Honest Eddie's Used Car Emporium" is a bit of a stretch. (Not saying the OP did this, but many others in this forum have.)

Not to mention that DirecTV does put the 0$ charge on your bill two months prior to actually billing you - That should be adaquate warning, but unfortunately most people do not pay attention to the details of their bills.

The same exact thing happened to us as well. We get paper billing and carefully view all the details each month. Hubby called to complain & cancel it. They tried their hardest to get him to keep it even though he kept telling them he works on Sundays and can't watch the games anyway.
