I noticed a lot of posts concerning free Superfan and some sort of connection to HD broadcasts. What exactly is Superfan? I didn't have it last year but still received all the games in HD. Has that changed this year or something?

You must have had Superfan because you can't get the HD channels on NFLST without Superfan. Maybe you had it for free. Did you have the Redzone Channel last year? I think that also requires Superfan.

Right, so do I get them again this year?
No, you will not get the games in hd this year without superfan. Superfan is $99 but many members here including myself have gotten it for free by calling in and asking. Good luck.

Just an update on this for anyone who got the HD games for free last season.

I called them to let them know I wanted all the HD games like I got last season. I was on hold for like an hour. When I got through the guy hooked me up with free premiere package and free superfan with NFLST for $75 a month for 4 months. They even threw in free DVR service. Niiiiice! Now, if it would just stop raining I could watch! :)

I'm posting this information because I just got burned by DirecTV and my own ignorance:

you need ALL OF THESE things to see NFL in HD:

(1) NFL Sunday Ticket (obviously)
(2) HD Access
(3) SuperFan

If you are not paying for all 3, you will not be able to watch or record the NFL HD channels. When I got home after work to watch my recorded game, I got the dreaded "searching for authorized content" message and a grey screen...no game despite it being on my recorded list. I even saw the HDDVR orange rec light as I came in the door. Turns out I had everthing except (3) above! I was misled because last week I watched and recorded the game in HD...but last week was free SuperFAN prevue weekend, so I had (3) without even realizing it. This week....no SuperFan, no HD, no game. As you can imagine I was pissed, especially since I could have recorded the game on the standard def channel, but the DirecTV csr quickly figured out the problem, and here I am ante-ing up another $20 a month for SuperFan (it was not offered to me free even after I explained the situation). Doesn't help me see this week's game though...... GOTTA read the FINE PRINT!!!!

Way to go! You got the new subscriber special. Several existing customers that hang out here got that same deal but not everybody that tried. I already have premier so I chickened out and didn't call. I did call last month and got superfan for free though.:p

What did you think SuperFan was? Did you just assume that it was free? Sorry but to me it sounds like you assumed to much and thats not D* fault. I understand that you are mad that the game did not recored today. If you did pay for the SuperFan today then you can watch the shortcut of the game. Since you dont seem to know what SuperFan is I will tell you what the shortcut is. Basically its every play from the game in 30 minutes or less. So if you talked them into free SuperFan or decided to pay for it then you can watch that.

Wow, harsh. I believe he did admit to his "own ignorance," so there's no need to be so condescending toward someone with a question.
