Anyone watching the Rangers/Lightning? The HD quality seems to be lacking. I have not seen any HD hockey yet with my new Directv HD hookup, but is this what I will see for the CI package? I hope this is because it is coming from Europe! It is not nearly as clear as NFL games!

I can't watch it, as I am in the Lightning market and have to watch Sun. I also have access to CBC-HD via my Canadian dish. If NHLN is using the CBC feed, then the game is not being produced in HD, only widescreen SD. If they are using the Rangers feed, I can't comment.

It looks decent to me, much better than the HNIC broadcasts on CI last year.
Watching directly from CBC-HD on my Star Choice dish, yes, it looks decent. And, of course, almost anything would look better than the overcompressed SD we get from DirecTV on CI. ;)

NHL net WAS using the CBC feed, and it WAS in HD.

I thought it looked really good, give or take a few technical difficulties.

Well, what can I tell you? Watching the game directly from CBC-HD (Toronto), it was in widescreen, but not in HD. Maybe a technical issue with that CBC affiliate (but it wasn't flagged as HD in the Star Choice guide, nor did the CBC show their HD bug during the game action, as they do for their true HD coverage). And the CBC online schedule also doesn't show the games today as being in HD.

As I'm in Tampa, as I noted, I couldn't view the NHL Network coverage.

Just to clear everything up. The feed on NHL Network was the CBCHD feed, which I believe was just the MSG-HD feed.

Now the 2nd game is also CBC-HD, but for some reason loos a little better, maybe its the FSN feed from Pittsburgh or CBC's own feed.

I saw a little of the Rangers game on MSG HD and it looked just as good as any other HD hockey on D* I've seen - and that's very good. I couldn't watch it on the NHL network as I'm in the Rangers territory. I did check a little of the Senators game on NHL network, and it looked just as good and it was the CBC HD feed.

The CBCHD feed was NOT the MSGHD video feed. I was watching the game on MSGHD and NHL Network HD and at the same time they'd have different images or camera angles. I was just going to start a thread that I thought the NHL Network HD (CBCHD) feed was lacking in PQ, but you beat me to it.

At times, the video was better than other times on NHL Network, but nowhere as crisp as the MSGHD feed. 1st time I ever saw a CBC HD feed and was excited and hope there is much more to come via NHL Network HD or NHL CI. If the Rangers are playing, however, I'll stick to MSGHD since they do a great job and the MSG HD PQ is 2nd to no one.

I did notice that there was no game scheduled for NHL CI today in the guide, however, MSG HD was open (I have NHL CI and SportsPack) and not blacked out. The Pens game on NHL Network was blacked out for me, since Pittsburgh claims me in their FSN Pittsburgh audience, although I am over 200 miles east of Pittsburgh. Nuts.

Actually I watched on the MSG-HD feed in Tampa ...not blacked out for some reason .... NHL HD also blacked out for me

now the Pens game was, according to pens announcers, all the same feed ...CBC, FSN, NHLN, and even sweden local feed

At one point in the CBC broadcast, the picture went blue, then jumbled, then a graphic came up that said "MSG NETWORK IS EXPERIENCING TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES".

CBC WAS sourcing from MSG.

I noticed the same thing. Seems like the actual game was the MSG feed but pregame, intermission was CBC as the broadcast had the CBC/HD logo on the bottom right of the screen. Not to mention MacLean, Milbury, and Hrudey doing the show.

Anyone who thought the overseas games would be flawless is crazy, I don't think I've ever seen a problem free overseas game the NHL has put together, I expect CBC to be much better next week when they do their own productions (assuming they do their own productions in Canada

Oh well...when I got the blackout on NHLNetwork I didn't even bother trying MSG, assuming I'd be blacked out there as well.

yeah, i got game search when trying to record nhl network and it gave me the msg and fsn pittsburgh feeds. i found this strange as i should have been blacked out of the msg feed since i live in lightning territory.

my complaint with the msg game was the bulk of my audio came from the right front speaker and it seemed like i got nothing from the center or left front. had to do a tone test to make sure the speakers were okay!

I recorded both games and it was full widescreen HD and was a very nice picture. Both games had the CBC bar across the top with the scores, so they were showing the CBCHD broadcast. Its possible that the cameras were owned by MSG and CBC was picking up their feed and re-broadcasting it.

Weird.. I flipped back and forth b/w CBC (NHL Network) and MSG several times and thet had totally different angles of the game play and arena.

The 2nd game (Pens and Sens) was all from 1 pool feed, as they announced on FSN Pittsburgh.
