Nice, Inexpensive HDMI Cable

After refusing to pay $50 for a HDMI cable at Best Buy (that was the AR brand; Monster was much higher), I ordered three from www.newegg.com, part number 12-189-053 for $8.99 each, plus shipping. $40.53 for all three with 2 day shipping. (I just checked newegg.com and the price today is $9.99). They arrived yesterday and are very nice cables; large diameter, nice connectors, perhaps a little stiffer than the AR one.

The ones I received have an encapsulated thingy at each end that may be a RFI filter - the photo on the website does not show it. But, it looks like the type of thing that the esoteric cable companies would charge $$$$$ for and brag about the marvelous benefits of their exclusive technology:lol:

Anyway, I thought I would pass this along for those needing HDMI cables and who, like me, do not want to pay highly inflated prices.

Also check out www.monoprice.com - best prices for audio, video and network cables I've seen. Quality is excellent and shipping is very fast as well. Don't think I'll be buying cables from anywhere else now.

I've only bought from them once, but I'll definitely be a repeat customer. Their prices are unbeatable, and they're very fast.

Definitely monsters are a joke, way overpriced. But I wonder if these monoprice cables are as well constructed and conductors of high frequencies as RAM , who btw is a sponsor of this dbstalk site.

His are about twice as expensive as monoprice. But I note they are silver plated solid conductors, with the same gold plated tips as monoprice. But monoprice are tinned conductors according to the specs. The Silver plating I beleive will mean somewhat less loss and signal degradation. Though since these are such short runs, 3 or 6 feet, that may not be that significant.

I don't mind paying twice as much, approx 35 a cable, if its worth it, but don't want to if monoprices are the same quality. Its just hard to beleive they are as good a quality for high frequency conduction at that price. I don't know, just looking for opinions, input.

I spoke to the owner of RAM on the phone about 6 weeks ago and he seemed very on top of it all and professional.

addendum: ah yes I see, RAM has standard hdmi which are same price as monoprice and the higher end ones also. The difference being that silver plated copper conductor If you scroll down that page I gave above, you will see the standard ones. I believe I will get the high end one.

For anything less than about 15ft, almost any HDMI cable will do. RAM, monoprice, bluejeanscable are good suppliers, great prices even for very long cables. There is no point in paying more than about $15 for a 6-foot HDMI cable. The plating on the connectors is not relevant, it is just a marketing thing.
They also make a really nice (and inexpensive) 5x1 HDMI switcher with IR remote control. It works nicely with my Harmony remote. I have an OPPO upconverting DVD player with HDMI as well as the HR20, so I still have room for 3 more HDMI devices. Works very well with the HR20.

I'm with them that this place is tops for any cable. I've bought 12 cables from them so far...all top quality...low price...fast shipping.

I've always used Newegg for computer parts, never have had a problem with them, and that is after purchasing many (way to many, computer upgrade habit I can't break) parts from them. As for HDMI cables, I have never bought A/V gear from them but would not hesitate to try them for that.
I bought my 6 ft HDMI cable from ehdmi.com for around $11.50 including shipping. ($6.75 for the cable + $4.75 for shipping).
