Just wanted to say in our 9+ years with DTV, we have received no anniversary gifts or any type of free upgrades that I did not hear here first and called to get. Well today in my email, I received an offer for a free HD/DVR upgrade for my HD receiver. I sent off for it and received it today.

Of course there is a 2 year commitment, but now I have three HD DVR's on my Whole home network! I am very pleased indeed.

Now I have one that records channels 3-100, one for 200-300, and one for 300+.

Clever way to allocate hard drive space! I also have three HD DVRs, I might try your scheme. Of course if collaborative scheduling was available...

We do it by networks. It really avoids conflicts when you have a plan.

I seperate them by who watches the content and it seems to work pretty well. My shows record in the theater room, my wife's shows in the living room, and the shows we watch together in the Master Bedroom. Seems to work pretty well for the most part. Occasionally we will have conflicts but they are usually taken care of automatically by setting the priority of the shows. My wife records all the Housewives and Teen Mom and 16 and pregnant shows and they run multiple times a week so I just put them lower in the priority list and they record just fine.

I had originally done this because when Whole Home DVR went from CE to national release because I wasn't going to pay for it, and this setup worked pretty well for the couple of months we went without it. But then my wife started complaining that she couldn't watch her shows in the bedroom or theater room when she wanted to so I ended up adding it back as unsupported (I still refuse to pay a bunch of money to have them install DECA units when my gigabit network works just fine).

I use the HR34 as the primary and the other DVR's record as backup based on network. Never see any more recording conflicts.

Before I got my HR34 I had an HR21 for FOX/CBS/HBO another for NBC/ABC/SHO another for USA/TNT/DISC another for just movies and an HR24 for SyFy/FX/COM/NASCAR. Now that I have my HR34 I put FOX/CBS/HBO/NBC/ABC/SHO on it which freed up an HR21 that I use for just NASCAR races now and another HR21 just for OTA backups.

And I still use my spreadsheets to keep track of them all. :lol:

My kids have their own dvrs so I don't have to sift through their shows. Plus I use my son's dvr for conflicts. (Mostly on Thurs night)

We also have 3, and every time I consider getting rid of one, I come back to the "conflict resolution" issue. The HR20-700 with 2 TB drive (eSATA/Thermaltake Dock) is the main workhorse, while the HR21-100 (in the same rack) is used to record those series with conflicts on the main machine. The HR20-100 is on its own dish on the NE side of the house, in the wife's domain.

The one change I would like to make when the time is right is to replace the HR20-700 with an HR34, giving me 7 recording tuners in the rack, and one more viewing only tuner in the bedroom (H21-200).

Keep an eye on the web site. I got a free HR 23 when I was checking on something. I got it with a free install and a second dish on the place. I bet they have a lot of rehabbed units and thats a good why to get them out there and get the 2 year, and a little good well.
