The soocer is okay, but quite a bit of Haze in the air over there.

Basketball is great. USA/Czech Republic live now. Looks like George Bush is there.

Thanks to NBC Universal for providing the channels sans commercials and Thanks to DiSH Network and apparently DIRECTV for carrying them.

I cannot tell what the actual 1080i resolution is, but it certainly beats any SD presentation. :)

I watched a soccer match that was at night, and there was no haze/smog and it lokked awesome!
The only negative so far was last night at 2:30am when they first turned on the Olympic Basketball channel there was no sound. Not sure when the sound actually kicked in as I gave up on it after a while and watched a movie... but sometime after 3:30am they had sound. If you weren't up late then you didn't know about the sound glitch. Not sure if it was NBC or Dish at fault as I don't know anyone else with cable who was up that late to check on their cable (Time Warner added these for the Olympics as well).
I still haven't accepted beach vollyball as a spectator sport. That's what we did to kill time when I grew up in Santa Cruz County along with beach football. Surfing, that was the sport then. But in HD, it has benn interesting....
Wasn't there supposed to be a NBC-HD feed added just for the Olympics too? I'm really disappointed that I missed out on seeing the opening ceremonies in HD because I can't pickup my OTA NBC affiliate.

That would have been the universal HD maybe. However I did notice it that UniHD didn't pick up the Olympics until after opening ceremony which I was able to watch on my NBC affiliate OTA in HD. It was awesome.

There are multiple venues. Some are hazy and others are not. The opening ceremony was something to behold, haze or not. NBC and its partners are doing a wonderful job covering the games so far. There was a fantastic swim relay last night where the U.S. edged out the favored (and trash-talking) French team; What a finish! The Olympics in quality HD are a real treat.

Well the Picture Quality has been great, and lots of good camera angles. NBC, is killing me though with its coverage, if it wasn't the DVR, We would have already missed lots of the Olympics, and would have to live on pictures and news afterwards, and BEFORE HAND. If they Say LIVE coverage anymore, I am going to have to drink more Koolaid. Phelps and company when the Gold, and 8hrs later here on the west coast, we are able to finally see it, at just before Mid-Night, Granted we saw it this morning, while getting going for the day. Not sure when PRIMETIME was moved to between 11-12pm
The extra HD channels look great to me, but what a total waste of bandwidth to carry soccer, man.

I watched Badminton the other day, and it was at least 4x as exciting. Where's the Badminton channel?
The problem with the Basketball channel is that the guide has no information as to what game is played when. I saw on Yahoo sports that USA is playing the semifinal basket ball game on 8/22 at 7:15 in the morning (that is 10:15 is the evening of 8/22 Beijing time). I set a manual timer for this event. I hope it works.

Between games they show the schedule for the day, but you would have to get up pretty early to see that game on the schedule.

As my mildly irritated wife would tell you, I've been watching about four hours a day of Olympic soccer in glorious HD. It's the closest thing to Voom's WorldSport that we're going to get for a while.

Of course, it doesn't have the mainstream appeal of beach volleyball. :sure:

All I see on those channels is Soccer. I'm not a soccer fan.

Maybe it isnt that it is exciting, and that it was shown throughout the whole omlympics. Started 8-6 ends 8-23
It worked perfect. I set a manual timmer to the basketball channel at the exact time the simifinal game was being played in China and I got the game. Watched it when I got home from work today. USA beat Argentina 101 to 81. Kobe looked great.

No commercials. Picture quality was so so (think DVD quality) but all in all NBC did a great job.

You don't have to like soccer, but trust me, that is not a waste of bandwidth.

I hate the shopping channels, but I understand that there are folks who like that stufff.

There are billions of people worldwide who can appreciate soccer and millions in the US who are grateful for having the rare chance to see quality soccer in HD. I would die for FSC and GolTV to be HD -probably will not happen naytime soon.

Keeping an open mind helped me appreciate a lot of sports. Growing up outside of the US, I did not understand baseball. And to the unlearned, it can look pretty boring - especially if there is a pitching duel going on. But I said to myself that the 60,000 people who scream evertime someone misses that ball can't be just plain stupid. From that point, i spent enough time watching to understand little by little and grew to appreciate the sport in all its facets.

Soccer requires the same understanding of the game within the game. Of course, there can be some boring soccer but there were some very nice matches in the Olympics.
