Usually my experience with Mastec in the past has been touch and go, but my R15 died and I needed to get a new one. I thought I would need a second line fished in the wall for an upgraded receiver so I scheduled an installer. At $50 total cost, I figured why not. I currently have an HR20 and two HR22 with MRV using my own Ethernet creation so I wasn't sure what would be required by adding a new HD receiver.
The tech arrived at the time slot promised and told me I didn't need a line fished through the wall anymore as only one RG6 cable is required with the SWM system. I was a little reluctant to upgrade to the SWM having already set up MRV with my Ethernet, but I figured why not. He quickly set me up in my attic with the power supplied SWM and a multi-distributor for the RG6 cabling.
Installer had everything wired and hooked up within an hour. Unfortunately, one of the transponders wasn't giving a signal high enough to pass installation on the new HR24. The installers (there was a trainee too) fiddled with the dish and still couldn't get a high enough signal. Eventually they replaced the entire satellite dish and the cabling on the side of the house and the unit finally passed installation.
The only other problem is that for some reason the HR24 wasn't upgrading all of the HD stations including some of the locals missing completely. He stayed on the phone with DirecTV for awhile to figure this out (they said to basically wait until it populates even though we waited over 30 minutes) and then he gave me his number to contact him if there were still any issues. The issue did eventually work itself out.
These guys from Mastec went above and beyond to assist with the installation. It was really good feeling. I'm fairly technically literate, but it was great having an installer who knew what he was doing and would stick it out until everything was working properly. Kudos to this unit from Mastec and DirecTV for getting me upgraded for $50 to a now, at least for a couple of years, future proof system.
