The 722 is the recommended DVR in this article.

Nice.:goodjob:
"Bottom Line on the VIP-722: "This is by far the best-performing and most fully featured HD DVR on the market."

Well at least they said the HR21 is sufficient, I guess thats good.:D

"While not as fully featured as the ViP-722, the DirecTV HR21 box is nonetheless sufficiently equipped for an HD DVR if you choose to go DirecTV route."
Thanks Tulsa for the link. Nice to see good press on the 722.
One thing this article pointed out that I hadn't realized: I was actually considering dropping my $5/month local channel package since I have hooked up my OTA antenna to the 722. But I guess I won't do that, because I would lose my programming guide detailed description for my OTA channels.

Also, I wonder what additional "features" are available by connecting both the ethernet and phone line (as opposed to ethernet only).

Some of the My Account stuff can only be accessed via telephone.

Obviously, caller ID is only available with a phone line connected and caller ID subscription with the dialtone provider.

How do you view this article? I've tried two or three times and don't get any pages except a home page but no content.

Look under Cool Gear in the choices, click on "Satellite HD DVRs Compared"
Only quibbles I have are that it implies both USB ports can be used at the same time, and also by implication overstates the importance of having phone and ethernet connected by neglecting to say that the programming choices missed are not essential (additional "on demand" selections, access to personal billing). You will of course want at least one of those extra connections to avoid the invented additional outlet fee.

And then, click the arrows at the top to advance each page - that's what confused me.
