as has already been suggested, the best way for the original poster to deal with this issue is to "move" to some adjoining market. basically this entails calling up dish and lying about where you live in order to receive locals from a different market.

this issue is unrelated to the ongoing DNS issue. dish network does not carry an abc affiliate in your market. so to get one, you need to tell them that you "moved" your dish and all receivers to your vacation home in the market where you want locals.

this form shows what channels are available to every address.

hint: find a pizza hut, mcdonalds, etc in the target zip code and add a non-existent apartment number to the address.

it takes about 2 minutes for the new channels to show up after a "move". your guide isn't updated immediately but if you care, you can force an update on the guide by doing the check switch test.

the CSRs don't care. more than likely, they know what you are doing. as long as you are paying for your locals, they have bigger fish to fry.

i think this guy chose his parent's address because they live in that market.

other people just add a non-existent apartment number to the address of a fast food restaurant. the address you choose doesn't have to exist -- it just has to work in the computer. and the computer only keeps track of acceptable ranges of addresses (much like the postal service).

on some roads, the addresses jump in increments of 10. if you pick an address in the middle that ends with a 5, it'll work in the computer and you'll be assured that you won't conflict with a real subscriber at some real location.

no, they don't ask for a new telephone number. if they happen to ask, just say that you don't have a phone there because you use your cellphone at the vacation home.
