No cable around here all night long....

because of Ike swinging thru. But, I only lost signal for the 5 seconds I lost power. Otherwise, not a hitch.
So much for TW's commercials slamming loss of signal with sat.
(And the cable shortage was pretty much across a 2 county area, not just local).

Absolutely. While I hate rain fade (and it's not at all uncommon down here), total outage time in a year is far lower than with most cable systems.

And after major storms, satellite wins hands-down.
How does this have anything to do with DirecTV?

My dishwasher wasn't working for about a week when my DirecTV did. But then when DirecTV wasn't working here during Wilma I had no problems with my car.
I think it was supposed to be a plug for DirecTV?

Ya but the competitor doesn't claim that their dishwasher works when yours doesn't.

That's the thing. I remember Brighthouse running commercials here in Central Florida talking about how satellite goes out every time it rains. Then the first of the 2004 hurricanes hit and all of the local TV stations ran messages in their crawls stating that Brighthouse was asking their customers to be patient as they worked to restore service (ie, please stop calling us). Some people didn't get their service back for weeks. (To be fair, two more storms rolled through in those following weeks.)

Meanwhile, I had a small amount of rainfade just before I lost power with Charlie, and didn't have rainfade or power loss with the next two. (This was back before we had Ka, so I would expect to have Ka rainfade now.)

In others words, the cable companies should be careful throwing their stones, as their glass houses could take one soon enough.
