No Radio Hanukkah on DirecTV

I had thought DirecTV was going to carry all the XM holiday channels, but apparently I was wrong. Here's the polite but clueless reply I got from a CSR when complaining about the non-carriage:

Dear Mr. xxxx,

Thanks for writing. I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying our new partnership with XM Satellite Radio, and thank you for your suggestion. We picked the most popular stations to include in our service. Although we don't carry Radio Hanukkah (XM 108) right now, we value your feedback and I have forwarded your suggestion on to DIRECTV management.

We often choose future programming based on customer requests, and we conduct customer surveys on a regular basis to get programming ideas. Our various research methods ensure that we consider the best programming options for our customers.

Thanks again for writing and stay tuned to DIRECTV.com for the latest news and information about our service.

Sincerely,

Surely you know DirecTV is a CHRISTIAN company

That's why they play Jingle Bells and Santa's coming to town :)

Seriously.............they should carry ALL the holiday channels.
Hanukkah music? What would it be , a neverending stream of dradle and Adam Sandler? :)

I really doubt that there is enough material to warrant a genre called "Hannukah music"

XM has Radio Hannukah on channel 108. So yes there is enough content, but other then what you mentioned I can't think of anything. :)

Larry,

It would be nice if they included that channel on DTV but I'm not sure why you think the response from the DTV CSR was "clueless". What kind of response would you have been satisfied with?
Of course there are lots of XM channels not carried by DirecTV. I suppose they don't have the capacity, or want to pay XM, to carry all of their channels.

Yep. No room for anything Jewish related, but there seems to be plenty of room for ~7 channels dedicated to another religion which I shall not name (do I really need to)?

Merry Christmas AND Happy Hanukkah to all!
Time to put on your tin foil hats ladies and gents
There are Hannukah songs other than the Adam Sandler ones? Seriously. Are there really enough Hannukah songs to fill up a 24/7 radio station?
The channel is not a total music channel, nor 100% themed around Hanukkah. The theme seems to be "pretty much anything recorded by somebody is Jewish". Remember that William Shatner is Jewish.

In any event, according to the World Factbook, the USA population is 52% Protestant, 24% Roman Catholic, 2% Mormon, and 1% Jewish. Neither DirecTV nor XM are the government. They have no legal obligation to be even handed. They can carry what ever they want, from the Logo Channel to BYU TV. Their only rule is the only perfect rule that can exist on Earth, the rule of the Market.

But I really do not see any of the XM Christmas channels as "religious" in any way. Special X is "religious"?

I think it's clueless in that the CSR seems to have no idea that it's only a one week channel. Saying we might put it on in a month or two makes no sense.

Shalom and Happy Holiday of your choice or happy anyday!

What is the World Factbook, and what is their source for this info? I suspect the number given for Jewish only includes those who are members of temples, and not the large number of unaffiliated Jews. Also many temples consider a family to be one member, regardless of how many people are in the household.
Couldn't have said it better myself Sam!

The World Fact Book is well a World Fact Book that's put out by the CIA.

Merry Christmas!
I too was dissapointed that they didn't Carry the Hannuka channel, until I tuned it in on my regular XM radio and listened...not much worth hearing...I'd PREFER a loop of Adam Sandler.

Still, if they are going to carry all the holiday stations, they should carry that too.

I'm actually suprized that XM doesn't have a year-round Jewish/Klezmer music station. Seems like it's one those things that people who like would pay to get since it's not exactly widely available on the airwaves in most areas.
