Ok, I've checked and have not found any threads dealing with an issue like this...

I just received my Nomad (Friday) and as yet have been unable to use it. Every time I attempt to register my iPhone or iPad, I get an error message that reads :
"Activation Failure

You are missing one or more system requirements to activate your [device].
Please refer to the QuickStart Guide, Owners Manual, or visit www.directv.com/nomad for more information. (AR/1001)"

I have checked with all these resources, and the only requirement I'm missing, as far as I can tell is "Mobile DVR service".
I called DTv, and was put in touch with case management, we spent several hours troubleshooting, and they even turned on mobile DVR at their end. Bottom line is, they have escalated my case to the engineers, and hopefully I will hear more tomorrow (Monday). I'm hoping someone here will have an idea that might solve this issue, so I'm throwing it out here...

My setup:
1. HR-34
2. Cinema Connection Kit
3. Netgear Wireless-N 300 Router WNR2000 v2
4. CenturyLink DSL (3Mbps)
5. iPhone 4, running IOS 5.1 (NOT JAILBROKEN)
6. iPad running IOS 5.1 (NOT JAILBROKEN) (original version
7. Both iDevices are attempting to run the newest version of the Nomad app 1.8.1
8. I do NOT, at this time, have a "real" computer.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app on both devices several times, and rebooted the devices after installing the app (this sometimes helps clear issues with new apps). No effect

I powered down the entire system, bringing it back up in the order proscribed by CM. No effect

I did a hard reset of the nomad as directed by CM. No effect

Waited several hours 24+ to see if nomad started working. No effect

We went thru all troubleshooting available thru CM according to lights on nomad. No effect

At this point, we think the issue is network related. My network is set up to use 172.18.xxx.xxx and supply addresses automatically over DHCP. Everything works (TV Apps, VOD, etc), the iPhone and iPad both "see" the nomad, the DTv iPad app works flawlessly, but I keep getting this error every time I attempt to authorize either device. Unfortunately, I am unable to change the router settings as I can't remember the login info, and the master reset on the router doesn't seem to be working. I may go purchase a new router and try that, but I honestly don't see how that will help unless they force the nomad to use a 192.168.xxx.xxx address and u refuse to believe they would do that instead of making it (Nomad) DHCP compliant.

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance,
Joe

I don't believe the IP address range is the issue. I do wonder if it's complaining because it hasn't been activated on a PC.

I have some friends on that team and I'll see if I can get them to help.

Thanks Stuart.

That raises the next question to everyone out there...

Has anyone had issues activating a Nomad from their iPhone? And, were these issues resolved by attempting to activate from a p.c.?

Thanks,
Joe

Do you have any friends/family with a laptop that you can use and try to activate? I don't know if that will resolve your issue, but just something else to try while you wait for the engineers.

I'm having an internal argument with myself over attempting this. I don't "NEED" the Nomad just yet, and I'd like to help the engineers find and solve this issue.

Somewhat unrelated to the issue at hand, but if you want to reset your router to factory settings, you can do the 30-30-30 rule.

Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds. Continue to press for another 30 seconds after you unplug it. Continue to press for another 30 seconds after you plug it back in. That should factory reset your router.

I used my iPad, and it worked OK. I did need to let it upgrade the firmware before I could access it. Do you know if this has completed?

Is the nomad brand new, or used?
It has, as far as I know, updated it's firmware. The status light was amber then flashed amber for a while, and the device rebooted several times. The CM agent indicated that this was the device updating its firmware.

Also, I think the unit is new, but I couldn't say for certain... How do I tell?

I'd say if you got it from DTV it should be new, and eBay is used. If you're not sure, it's likely new.

I also had issues since I had the iPad client running when it tried to do the firmware update and activate. I removed the client from my iPad, restarted the nomad, waited an hour, then installed the client and activated.

At least you have something to try?

I activated my Nomad using only my iphone. Didn't install the software on my computer until a month or two after I got it. That should not be your problem.

I know you said that the lights on the Nomad flashed amber for a while indicating it was updating the software, but what color are the lights now?

Do you have the wired or wireless CCK?

Netgear login credentials usually default to "admin" and "password".

Be sure upnp is enabled.

Also be sure that everything including the CCK is connected to the WNR2000. Nothing should be connected to the DSL router other than the WNR2000.

Checking you have HDDVR service on your home account (you have an HR34 so likely has to be but worth mentioning).

And if still running into problems, what DSL router do you have?

Also, how is the CCK connected? Internet and TV system.

I have tried default login credentials...
Everything is connected to the Netgear router.
I do have hd, DVR, and mobile DVR services.
Dsl modem is a westel versalink.
CCK is connected via Ethernet to the router, and by coax to the splitter coming out of the wall jack.

Did you try going to Settings > General > About > Clicking Name and renaming your device without spaces or apostrophes (your iPhone)

Then restarting and trying again. You've probably done this though, maybe even restart your network and nomad not just the idevices

Yes, case management told me there is an issue with apostrophes in device name, so I changed them. (did reboot after)
I have restarted everything in my system, powering everything down, and restarting in the order requested by case management agent.
The agent I spoke with today mentioned reading somewhere, although she couldn't find it today, that a wireless CCK is required. My CCK is wired. Not sure if that matters.
It's all back in the hands of the engineers again. :crosses fingers:
