Not " Allowed " to cancel NBA League Pass!!?

10540 Views 17 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  zimm7778
Well I am new & ordered Directv in August. I ordered NBA League pass on Jan 8th..the last day of the free trial ... I went to cancel a week later but directv site said canceling before 30 days will end me up with a $10 fee.. So I waited until this past Monday ( Feb 6th ). I called them & they told me the last day to cancel was January 31st... I am in a hole... But when I ordered, from online clicking the orange " Activate " button... it said nothing about a January 31st date whatsoever!... What can I do? Before I blow up in sparks of steamy fireballs?

( B T W - if you go to google & type in " january 31st directv nba league pass " .. & click on the fourth link down it is something interesting if you'd like to try & help me..which I would appreciate so much!!

Once the season starts, you cann't cancel League Pass. Same goes for Extra Innings, Center Ice, etc.
The rules regarding when you can and can't cancel are dictated by the NBA.
Are you serious?! That's crazy ... I mean there's no way I can pay for it so I'm screwed.

Gotta ask the obvious here, then why did you order it?
Because I didn't want the free trial to end & didn't think much of 42 dollars... till I realized " o wow..gotta pay this for 4 months " . Idk what I'm gonna do.
The $10 fee is for premiums like HBO and Showtime.
The season started Dec 25th... they let people cancel up until Jan 31st? How does that work if once the season starts you can't cancel?! This is all too fishy.

Never heard of being able to cancel until January 31st before.

Like I said seriously go to google & type in directv january 31st nba league pass & the fourth link down ( I believe it's a PDF file or something ) click on it & it has the Terms & Rules for employees only ... ? Plus the customer rep for Dtv told me that too...
From http://support.directv.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1672/kw/cancel league pass:

How does NBA LEAGUE PASS Automatic Renewal work?
Like all our sports subscriptions, NBA LEAGUE PASS automatically renews each season at the lowest full-season price available. You'll see a renewal notice on your bill a few months in advance, and your first installment will be due near the start of the season.

To stay eligible for automatic renewal, just keep your DIRECTV account in good standing and make sure all your receivers are continuously connected to the same land-based phone line. Please note that if you cancel your subscription before the season starts, you won't qualify for the special renewal rate. Also remember that sports subscriptions can't be canceled, refunded, or credited (in part or in whole) after the season starts.

That's news to me but why would they not make that known when someone is ordering... & they did say jan 31st was the last day to cancel this year... I mean I don't understand this. You must not understand it either? If you do, please do shed some much needed light!

The only thing I don't understand is you being told you could cancel until January 31st. If you were actually told that, that would be the issue.

Of Course I was!! He put me on hold when I told him I wanted to cancel ( Him being the DirecTv customer rep ) then he came back on the line & just told me he was sorry & that the last day to cancel would have been January 31st.... Plus look at this link ( if I can paste it ) it shows a list of 2012 NBA Rates & Facts.. once you check it out if it means anything to you in any way let me know... ( it's an Adobe google Document I found searching google on rates & Facts... ) EDIT: If for some reason you don't trust that it's legit look it up on google... I'm not kidding... Top right it says DIRECTV For sale personnel use only Not for publication or distribution ... That's why I was curious if you knew anything about it..or have seen it...

I don't see the issue. If you could cancel up until January 31st which that PDF says, then you calling February 6th is after the date. They don't have to publish all of this stuff in every place NBA LP can be advertised or ordered. That's your job to find this stuff out. They obviously make it known either on their website or it was on this PDF file. I'll also bet it was in the fine print on the screen that scrolls the advertising when they come time to order (channel 115 or whatever it is). One year I overshot my budget not thinking it would be a problem to pay and I realized it was it was too late. When I told them they were gonna have to cut my service off then because I couldn't pay it we came to a compromise. I'd eat the one month it billed, and they'd remove the rest and cancel NBA LP. I can't promise they'll do this but you could go that route. Either way, it's ALWAYS been standard procedure out of market sports packages are not refundable once the season starts, so January 31 was actually very lenient.

Since all of their sports subscriptions are not normally cancellable after the season starts, if they had different rules for this season's NBA season, it may have to do with the lockout.

Either way, you didn't find out about either deadline (season start or Jan 31st) in time to cancel. The season start deadline is published on their site, and is in the small print of their ads, so they will probably not relent on their rules. (Especially since it appears that they had an official exception for this season that allowed concellation until the 31st.)

I know this seems like an expensive life lesson. I hope you find a way to pay for this package.

This may be it, the PDF does specifically say that auto-renew customers had until the 31st.
Maybe that's so those on auto renew had time to realize the season had started again.
