It's just not fair that I can't get a Fox or NBC in HD local or non local. I'm becoming a huge Fringe fan since X Files is no more and it's an insult to the show not to be able to see it in HD. Surely somebody in the country is getting a Fox HD channel and I want it too. Of course living in Mississippi doesn't help since Directv thinks we still listen to 8 track players here. My area will probably be the last one to get HD networks. For some reason they give me a HD feed of ABC and CBS. Don't tell them that or they'll take it away from me. Thanks all for letting me vent.

It is all about contracts and Directv is not alone in this issue.

On several of our local channels here in Toledo there have been banners on the channels warning that the channel may go off the air due to contract negotiations. Sometimes they suggest going to Directv or Dish.

You are right.......it is not fair........but it is what it is. (and the is.....is MONEY)

If I may suggest, call up the sales manager of the local station and tell him or her, you like the programming, but you're not watching it because it's not in HD. DIRECTV is usually pretty anxious to get these locals in place. More often than not it's the locals themselves holding things up with contracts.

Let the sales manager know he's not getting your business. Maybe it will make a difference.

I feel your pain. I'm in a worse situation here in the Utica, NY. DMA. We can't even get LIL SD much less in HD. I can get the HD locals from the Syracuse DMA via OTA but it cost me serious $$$ for the antenna rig.

To further Stuarts idea, it also wouldn't hurt mentioning that you will be dropping all the sponsors during the prime time shows on your local affiliate. I imagine the sponsors during Fringe are paying quite a premium and would be shocked to hear that they may not be getting the best bang for their buck.

While it's your right to vent, I would have to point out that you're venting at the wrong people. DirecTV would love to give you the Fox HD DNS feed, but FCC regulations say that your local Fox stations have to approve waivers for that to happen. Your beef, then, is with either Jackson Television, LLC (WDBD 40), Communications Corporation of America (WNTZ 48) or both. If either of those stations denied your waiver, DirecTV cannot give you the Fox HD DNS channel. Same thing for NBC, but in that case it's Raycom Media (WLBT 3) that probably denied your waiver.

Thanks Newshawk I'll turn my venting to them and hopefully get something done. Hate blaming it all on Directv but if I blamed it on my mother in law that would get me in trouble. Ha Ha

I like the suggestion but think a lot of it depends on the station and manager. My local CBS will not work with me at all. I have a 190 mile VHF/100 mile UHF antenna but cannot pick up CBS local HD station that is only 10 miles away due to their signal strength issue. I can pick up the NBC local which is nearly 30 miles away. My local CBS has petitioned and won a signal strength block waiver from the FCC. I have called the manager and he tells me he is not permitted to give waivers becasue of FCC. I don't like being lied to but he continues to do so. He stated that he has offered Directv to carry CBS for years. In the meantime I am stuck without CBS HD until February. Thanks for the venting space.

It appears to be all that WDBD can do to stay on the air with their NTSC channel and their STA for the digital channel. Perhaps when they finish their permanent digital broadcast situation things will start happening.

I'm guessing you need to talk to Jackson TV to find out what's going on.

I have even tried sending letters to CBS Network but no response.

What really sucks is that Directv says there is no signal here to get LIL. The receivers say otherwise. I know plenty people who have "moved" and get them just fine. One right across the street from me.

Sure, I could do that, but with my luck, I'd need a tech 2 days after I "moved".

Can you get the local HD's OTA or have they not upgraded yet?

If they have upgraded the local stations to HD then as someone mentioned, its all about contracts and paying the price. I went through the finger pointing between TW and NFL Network for 2 years. I really didn't care who was at fault, I just wanted the channel. Well, they still haven't settled it so I did, by switching to D*.

Get ahold of local adverisers, the marketing person, and let them know that they are not getting thier moneys worth, that the local broadcaster is preventing you from watching their ads in order to try and squeeze pennies out of directv. Car dealers, resturants, local supermarkets, these are the people that advertise locally. I am sure they would like to know that they are wasting money going with that channel.
