Novice here with a wireless network - not getting the HR20 to see my PCs pictures/music.

Specs:
D-Link DI-614+ wireless router; Buffalo Wireless G Ethernet Converter; Windows XP Desktop

Steps:
- Downloaded and installed Twonky. Included 3 additional add-on files in the Cgi-bin directory. Started Twonymedia server.
- Installed Ethernet Converter (EC) with installation CD while connected to router port. Used Dynamic addressing as per instructions.
- Attached EC to the HR20.
- Connected to the Network on the HR20 via the Network menu. Test Successful.
- Checked address in Advanced Settings; Matched what the HR20 address now shows on the wireless router admin screens for an address.
- Rebooted HR20

I am not seeing a change in the Menu on the HR20. Any ideas for me to check?

Does the HR20 show both network connection as well as an internet connection?

It appears as though the HR20 needs both before you'll get Musics & Pics.

The HR20 test shows connection to both the Internet and Network.

Do you have the Buffalo converter set up to use DHCP or fixed IP address?

I was having much aggravating trouble with the HR 20 showing connected on both Inet and net yet no movie & pics when trying to use a fixed IP. My main router kept showing a different IP than the converter was set to.

I finally set the converter to use DHCP, reset the HR20 to use defaults, and got everything back.

We'll get this thing licked yet.

Thanks - using DHCP, although I did try static addressing as well during the process as I got a message when setting up the converter saying the IP addresses were in conflict. Now I am using DHCP, although I still get the occasional message on my laptop (connected via wire through the router) that I need to reconnect to the internet while surfing. Very intermittent though.

In order to get my Buffalo wireless ethernet converter working, I first had to run a hardwire cat5 connection from my router directly to the HR20. Then I had the Music & Photos option appear in the menu. Then I unplugged the hardwire connection, and made the connection to the Buffalo converter - it worked! Unfortunately, once I rebooted my PC the HR20 lost the connection again.

It appears I can only get my HR20 connected (reliably) is with a hardwire connection. However, I can't leave 75' of cat5 cable running from the upstairs of my house to the downstairs where the HR20 is. This evening I'll be trying THIS METHOD, and hopefully I won't have anymore connection issues. If this works, the Buffalo converter is being sent back.

The Powerline Ethernet Adapter does indeed work - finally! It acts just like a hardwired network cable connection. For anyone having issues with their wireless ethernet converters, I recommend going this route and they can be had from $50-$150 depending on where and what model you get.

EDIT: The only issue I still have remaining is that my HR20 can only see the Twonky media server software and not WMP11. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling WMP11 a couple times now to no avail. Looks like I'll need to cough up the $20 for the non-trial version of the Twonky software - unless someone can provide any tips for getting WMP11 to work?

Tried direct connect from router straight to HR20 without using Ethernet Converter. Still not seeing Music and Pictures in menu. I must be doing something fundamentally wrong...
