But is it possible to get an HR20 at reduced (below $299) price if I already got a $99 deal? I'd like to get one for the parents. I see people on eBay selling "coupons" but I'm guessing its some kind of a scam.

Anything you can get on Ebay....

You can get yourself.
Since your parents probably have their own account, they probably qualify for the $99 receiver as well.

Just call DirecTV and talk to them.

Well I live at home so its my account. So I'm guessing I would have to pay full price for the 2nd unit since I got the reduced one a couple months ago right?

Ask a bunch of different people at retention and threaten to go to cable. Just kidding, just ask and be nice usually they try to get you the best deal.

Never know unless you ask. Worse they can say is no. :)

I still have an old Hughes E-86 which I use for OTA. Once OTA is available and stable on the HR20 I plan to call up and ask for a trade up to an HR20 for $99 or less. I don't need to mention to them I already have one. Most likely the CSR isn't going look nor care. ;)

Of course I paid the full $299 for the one I have now so maybe I'll get a deal anyway.

They gave me a $100 credit when I bought my second HR20. I just asked politely. That was after already getting a discount on the first HR20 from D*

As other have said... you never know until you try.
It is possible you could still get it at a reduced price.

You can call and ask for customer retention from the voice recognition system.

And, if you have been a good customer for many years, pay for lots of programming each year (either the top tier or sports subs or lots of receivers), then they can often get you a second one for very little cost. Then in 6-12 months, you can do it again.

Cheers,
Tom

Talk to the 1st tier first, and see what they can do for you.
If you are not "satisfied" or think it is un-fair.. then request to talk to their supervisor.

Don't jump straight to retention...

Would it be best to call during the day? I figure the night staff might not be as good.
Actually... all times of the day are fine.

That isn't too bad, considering you got one already at $99...

But that was September, this is now late November

Things have changed since the "initial" rollout, and now when there is a shortage on the unit.

didn't think about the limited availability issues. Still worth a call back and see if he can get some credits like 10$ off for a year just to offset the price.

Now all you have to do is hope that something will go wrong during the installation and you can call back and get it for even less. Just kidding, sort of.

Interesting must be Grand Rapids, MI has plenty of units because just after putting my name on the list 2 days ago I got a call today and they setup an install on the 8th of December and gave me 4 months of free HD package.
