NY HD Locals

For the past few weeks; I have noticed that Channel 2 WCBS HD local, Channel 4 WNBC HD Local and Channel 11 WPIX HD Local have been simultaneously "experiencing technical difficulties" at approximately 1:00 AM daily. This message appears on a grey screen saying that DirecTV knows about the problem and we shouldn't call. If you tune to the same networks on channel 80 and 82...you see the DirecTV logo splash screen saying in both English and Spanish that the channel is experiencing difficulties.

I don't know what is going on; but if DirecTV knows about it for this long; then why isn't it fixed.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Actually, if its all three and nightly, it could be any number of things, but one possibility is that Directv picks up the signals OTA and that they have been working on the broadcasting antennas (assuming they are coming from the Crysler building) and when they do that, they have to be shut off otherwise people would get fried. I saw an interesting Discovery channel program on it once. I think the stations send out a signal from a secondary backup location when that happens, but if Directv isn't in position to capture the signal from that location, then it would make sense...

I've notice it on a number of occasions. It happened last night right after SNL went off the air, except it was just a black screen where as CBS had the placeholder up saying they were aware of the problem and not to call them.
it's not D*.... the same thing happens to their OTA feeds as well. They may be doing combiner work on ESB again.
gp245 posted this in another thread:

"I've posted this on the local NY thread -

A lot of work has been and continues to be done on the Combiner antenna atop the Empire State Building in New York City. The Combiner provides the digital signal for CBS, NBC, ABC, My and CW.

It appears that instead of hardwired fiber connections from the stations, Direct is using O-T-A antennas to pick up signal. So, what I'm assuming is that when antenna/transmitter maintenance is being done, usually late at night, Direct loses its signals."
