Not sure if this is the exact spot for this so Earl please move if necessary.
Also I have seen many of the other threads involving Twonky and ViiV etc. Not having or needing ViiV or Vista or Twonky perhaps they react differently but it seems that so far Music and Pictures isn't an overall huge issue. That meaning those who have hooked up like it but a good percentage are not interested in it so other issues still prevail.
Secondly the main concern has been getting people to be hooked up by one process or another. So because of that I haven't seen much feedback on the actual use of this feature.

I have a straight network connection with WMP11.

My general feedback is that I love the feature and gives me easy access to the home theater nand has inspired me to truly catalog all of our CDs to the computer.

The pictures work fine but since most are coded with numbers there is no at a glance viewing but outside of the TV being a much better and bigger monitor I mostly would use a shuffle feature for family get togethers and the like.

I have found that playing music while watching photos is no problem but if watching TV I do get an occassional time out anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes into the music. Would like this to be fixed.

I had and have set up a number of playlists for various things including music for my 3 year old. The playlists seem to play longer periods than say plaing from an artist / album.

I have come to use more and more playlists just to access the music I most often listen to.

So my issues with the music is mostly file organization/access and playback order.

My experience is that I am unfortunate to be a huge U2 fan. We listen to plenty of others as well so to get to U2 I need to access artist and then page down for about 5 minutes before I get to U.
Is there a way to get there faster? ( I have made a playlist and sort via playlist but that is only selected songs as if I put all the songs on the list I would then have to go through that list to the album I want to listen to)
Perhaps collapse each letter so only 5 pages to get to U's and then expand that letter?

So Ok lets say I access U2 I then get folders for each album. Then say I select Joshua Tree. I then open that folder and get "Shuffle" and then each song in alphabetical order. How do I play the album in track order?
When I play a playlist it plays in order, but I don't want to create a playlist for each album.

Are other peole getting the same kind of interface depending on your PC software?
If so other thoughts on more quickly access the files?

yeah... I say add Mac support (itunes/iphoto/etc)! I loathe WMP. iTunes is so much better. I'm surprised Connect360 (tool for letting you connect Xbox360 to Mac for media connectivity) doesn't seem to work.

The easiest way to play your tracks in order is edit the name of the song by adding the number of the track to the beginning of the title name of the song on your computer. Then when you open up your playlist on your HR20, your songs should be in order. Be sure tracks 1-9 are precedeed with a 0, track one would be "01_name of song," and so one.

Well I could rename all the titles but if you open the same album in Media Palyer it has the track number and correct order.

So I guess the question is -what is doing the work the HR20 or the file system in WMP?

I would like not to have to edit every track.

If the HR20 is looking at the file info I do have albums ripped by WMP and the file will say 01 title.wma Is the "01" not really prt of the actual file name?

Not the biggest of deals as i think playlists wil dominate my listening but just wondering if like the search functions the engineers at D* could come up with a better interaction and results.

BTW since I first wrote this my HR20 would not access the files. It would see the computer but then when selecting it nothing happened. Had to restart the computer and they came back. It is almost like the HR20 was reminding me who was the boss here.

Officially: The HR20 only supports the ViiV Media Server, right now v1.5

The MAC and Linux... is supported by using a third party Media Server, Twonky. There are others out there

Twonky can also be used on Windows 2003, and even Windows XP.

A lot of the Media servers out there, are removing the "01" from the front of file names. The HR20 is not doing that. It is displaying the data it gets back from the data stream from the Media Server.

The GUI interface for the Media Sharing is going to get a "face" lift during 2007..

I hooked it up on Sat and love it. I had been shopping for a media bridge over the lsat year and could not find one I liked and this was free.

I have not experienced any issues while just playing music or watching picture while playing music.

You should be able to do this on your computer by creating grouping folders.

1st folder (A-C)
2nd folder (C-E)
etc:

Then move the appropriate artist to each folder.

The media server and therfore the HR20 does not look at the name of the file but rather the title of the song as listed in the properties for that song. Otherwise how would it know what "Genre" or "Artist" or any other category for that matter, that track was part of? ;)

WMP uses the track "Tags" or "Super-Tags" to identify what the track number is, genre, album and so forth. If the HR20 isn't using the tags then it's not going to know what track number each individual file is... this can be typical for basic media players as my dvd player is the same way.

You can easily rename all the files using WMP by setting the Rip Settings in options to adjust the file name accordingly (to include the track) and then go to the Library tab and click "rename files according to rip settings".

All media players that use tags can do this... MusicMatch does it well, as does iTunes... WMP is a little more basic IMO.
