I was just wondering if anybody had an idea on where the territory for the NBA franchise in OK City would be? I hope it would extend to me in NEA so I could see Kevin Durant play without having LP?!? Thanks for any info you can give me on this question, have a great night, bye.

Haven't heard or seen anything at the OKC team website or in the Oklahoman.

There will be a live chat with some Oklahoman sports writers at 11am Wednesday, maybe there will be news from those guys.

Hornets were on Cox but don't know if that means anything. Hope they don't go that way, I only use their internet.

If your talking NBA on DirecTV I don't know anything about that. I only do MLB for the Tigers.

I dont think u would be able to see them unless a local channel in the NWA area plans to carry it. I live in Little Rock and I could only get Memphis on LP. The local Memphis station that carried the Grizz was PAX and I could not get it in Little Rock. Who knows????

Nobody really knows this. The team doesn't even officially have a name. They're not even close to getting to the broadcast rights and the spotbeam situation. Even when they get their channel, there's no guarentee that they're going to get any deals with the cable and satellite providers. The OKC team really needs to start getting stuff done. They only have 3 more months to get everything in order for the season.

Since you live in NE Arkansas, I would think that you would fall under the spotbeam of Memphis. I doubt that the small-size market OKC team could reach you since you're near a medium to large size market in Memphis. It's almost certain that you're going to need NBA LP in order to see OKC play.

You can always listen to the radio broadcasts online. :)

Main owner Clay Bennett was on WWLS The Sports Animal radio station today and announced that WWLS was selected to carry all the OKC games. They have an internet broadcast. Click on the "Listen Live" link in the corner of their home page.

WWLS is always a good listen anyway. They're always on in my car. According to ESPN they are the top rated sports station in the country and with good reason. I really enjoy the personalities on the station. It's curious that the two most popular are East-coasters - Jim Traber a former Major-leaguer from Maryland, and Al Eschbach a funny little guy from Jersey who is liable to say anything.

No TV or nickname or colors or mascot news was announced today, but Traber told the other guys who were going to be on with Bennett that he would tell them what the colors were during the commercial break, so at least some things like that have been decided, just not announced. Probably awaiting NBA approval.

Uh, wasn't it announced last week that they are going to be known as the Thunder?
No, that was one of the names registered by the NBA as reported by The Oklahoman.

The NBA has filed for trademark rights to six nicknames for Oklahoma City's franchise - Barons, Bison, Energy, Marshalls (spelled with two Ls), Thunder and Wind, according to the U.S. patent and trademark office.

The filings were Monday.

All six trademark requests were filed with the NBA Development League as the "owner." It's uncertain why the NBADL was part of the trademark process.

KOCO-TV has reported that "according to a source close to the ownership group," the name will be Thunder.

Thunder won a fan vote on NewsOK.com. All the names, except for Marshalls, were top picks by readers, as well.

There is more evidence Thunder could be the nickname. A search of Whois reveals the domain name Thunder.com was created for Thunder.Net Communications in July 1994, but the domain name rights expire Sunday.

It's not known whether the NBA or team Chairman Clay Bennett have held talks with Thunder.Net Communications.

"The NBA will not have a comment on this until a nickname is selected," said Tim Frank, NBA senior director of basketball communications.

One theory is Oklahoma City must choose a nickname before the 2008-2009 schedule, traditionally is released the first week in August.

"That's a flawed theory," Frank said. "The schedule is not done. We're not holding up the schedule because of the nickname."

From Wikipedia:

The greater Memphis metropolitan area, including adjacent counties in Mississippi and Arkansas, has a population of 1,260,581. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Memphis,_Tennessee)
The city's estimated population as of 2007 was 547,274, with a 2007 estimated population of 1,192,989 in the metropolitan area. In 2007, the Oklahoma City-Shawnee Combined Statistical Area had a population of 1,262,027 residents. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_City,_Oklahoma)

And don't forget there's Tulsa just about 1 1/2-2 hours up the Turner Turnpike from OKC, with a brand-new arena (Bank of Oklahoma Center) that's an ideal size for NBA games.

There's also Stillwater and Norman... we might finally find something that Sooners and Cowboys can agree on!

Hornets may need a place to play again.
