I downloaded the Opening Ceremonies: Sights & Sounds [HD] program last night, but when I went to watch it, it's shown pillarboxed and is clearly not HD quality. What's up here? Is the other "HD" programming not really in HD or does this just affect the Olympics? (Yes, I'm sure I downloaded the HD version; the listing in the Program List includes the [HD] badge.)

Did the same thing...I'm considering it a goof, that's all. Other Olympic HD programs were definitely HD.

They had issues with the first couple of Olympics programs at the start of the Olympics. Probably some fall out from that. The individual sports highlights and the full packages (like the entire triathalon) and daily highlights were all HD (and better PQ than the local NBC coverage).

Also, I was disappointed the drummers are not included on the on demand version. I recorded the opening ceremonies but missed the first 12 minutes when I did. That is exactly the point in the program where they pick up with the on demand version. So, I have yet to see that part!

I sent an e-mail to D* yesterday asking them to fix this problem. The response I got was:

I'm sorry about the problem you have on getting the HD version of Olympics coverage in DIRECTV on Demand. To use DIRECTV on Demand you'll need:

- A DIRECTV on Demand eligible receiver such as the DIRECTV Plus HD DVR (HR20 or HR21) or the R22 DVR
- DVR Service (If you plan on downloading HD programs you'll need HD Access)
- Broadband Internet service with a minimum connection speed of 750 Kbps or higher (DSL or cable)
- A network router with an available Ethernet port

We've found that resetting your receiver will often restore your service. There are two ways to reset your receiver; you can pick the option below that fits your situation.

Option 1:

On some DIRECTV receivers there is a reset button inside of the access card door. If your receiver has a reset button, you can simply press it to reset your receiver.

If there is not a button inside the access card door or pressing the button does not correct the problem, try these steps to reset your receiver:

Option 2:

1. Leave the receiver box on.
2. Unplug the receiver from the electrical outlet. (If your receiver's light is still on, you have pulled the wrong plug.)
3. Leave receiver unplugged for 15 seconds.
4. Reconnect it to the electrical outlet and return to normal viewing.

If resetting the receiver doesn't fix the problem, since you have the DIRECTV PROTECTION PLAN, the best way for you to get help as soon as possible is to call 1-888-667-7463 and choose the option to speak to a technical assistant. You may also find some helpful information at the DIRECTV Technical Help forums on our web site. Just visit http://forums.directv.com/pe/index.jsp to find answers to your questions.

Do they even bother to read the e-mails?
