Funny-sad, when I had DTV, special events (Wimbleton, Olympics, etc) they would put up a special group of HD channels (7-10), IIRC, in the 700's, and you could just add those channels to watch all the broadcast-ed events.

Very, Very nice, & I assume, yet again DTV will do this for the Olympics.

But Dish is using the Olympics to sell us Am. Top 250 (Gold Sports crap), JUST to get a single channel (for me with AT 200), a $10 bump.

So not only does Dish NOT do us an Olympic 'favor' of grouping the channels NBC is using, they really want us to pay!

All this after DROPPING AMC! (DTV has viacom again!)

Maybe the best 'customer service' but certainly NOT the best 'service' !! (yes it is cheaper than DTV, but not a huge amount)

Charlie's philosophy at saving us $$ is great, but there certainly are some negative trade-offs to that philosophy!!

A Billionaire yet again wanting more $$ from us, while taking AMC from us to boot!!

I believe that NBC Sports Network is in Choice Xtra on DirecTV for $68.99/month i believe. Dish does have it in America's Top 250 for $69.99/month (which includes other channels that are not in DirecTV's Choice Xtra package like the Encores and The Movie Channel west feeds which would be in a similar higher package on DirecTV like Choice Ultimate). However, Dish does offer NBC Sports Network in Dish America Gold for $59.99/month.

Doesn't DirecTV have an $8/month DVR fee? With a 211 with Dish, there is no DVR fee (external hard drive needed and a one-time $40 fee).

As for DISH's presentation of the Olympics, it starts Wednesday. The channels will be in the sports channel range and it isn't hard to set up an "Olympics" favorites list. I'd wait until the channels are live to pass judgement.

NBC announced that there will be free streaming web feeds of all the Olympic events if you are a cable or satellite subscriber.

I wonder if those Dish subs who are in markets with a local retrans dispute for the local NBC affiliate (Youngstown Ohio WFMJ) will be blocked form this content if you check Dish as your provider?

I bet you can still get this streaming content without being an AT 250 sub. I believe it's open to everyone who gets NBC via cable or satellite.

Incorrect. This is why Dish is promoting the AT 250 package with the rebate card, they know people will be calling to complain when they cannot watch the live streaming content. There is a Dish authentication screen that comes up during the process (just like HBOGO).

Go ahead, go to nbcolympics.com now and try to confirm your access.

This is not about the NBC Sports Network. The required package for a DirecTV customer (and likely many cable companies) is lower/cheaper than Dish because Dish does not offer MSNBC in the AT 120 package (the welcome package does not help because then you do not get CNBC -- the other requirement).

$8 for each additional unit (first one is free). And also $10 a month for HD (unless you are a new subscriber).

Okay. You are correct that you do not need AT-250, AT-200 is sufficient for online viewing. AT-250 is required for the NBC Sports Network only.

On AT 120, I got ready to watch on the website, but then I get the pop-up.

I have attached the screen shot which indicates the 'ready to watch' on the main page (darker grey) and then the pop-up in front.

For a basic DirecTV subscriber, they would have online access at even the 'E' package level.

The official announcement is still not here, but judging from what Sixto has spied on the satellites, DirecTV will have a "channel remapping" to put all the channels that broadcast Olympics together in a group:

750: Olympic "mix" channel. (shows 8 networks at the same time)
751: Olympic Soccer.
752: Olympic Basketball.
753 through 758 or so will be all the Olympic networks, NBC, MSNBC, NBCSports Network, Bravo, CNBC and Telemundo

The 753-758 will just be remaps, of existing networks. Not sure what goes where yet, I am sure we will see an update some time today or tomorrow on that.
750, 751, 752 are already "live" and Soccer is already being shown.

All I know is that the "7" and "5" keys will see some usage on my remote in the coming few weeks.

Yeah. This is ugly for anyone who does not have AT-200 or AT-250 on Dish.

Can't watch it on NBCSN (AT-250).
Can't watch it on online (AT-200 needed).
Can't watch it on the special soccer network (not activated even though it was uplinked).

In terms of why they didn't turn on the specialty network. My guess is that they did not realize the start date would be before this weekend OR it will be also limited to higher AT packages (but that was not true in previous years). I don't have a patch in to satellite operations nor do I know which DIRT member to contact efficiently.

I have America's Everything and have spoken with 3 Dish CSR's in the past 2 days,the latest an upper level tech earlier this AM, and so far no one has succeeded in activating the NBC Olympic basketball and soccer channels,even though the 2 I talked to today agreed I SHOULD get those channels. The upper level tech after consulting with her supervisor told me the channels would be 145 and 146, but no joy there,just a logo for ESPN alternate.
So I think Dish is in disarray about how they are covering the Olympics. I did get to see the US women's soccer team vs France on the NBCSN (CH 159),but 145-146 do not have the special channels and I do not get channels 147-149 despite the CSR's attempt to add them to my list.
I will call Dish again tomorrow to see if they have resolved this.

I watched the entire US France womens match this morning on my iPad. I downloaded the two NBC Apps. Picture quality was great even though our work DSL tests out at only 2.3 Mbps. I have AT200. If I find there are events I want to see that can only be watched with AT250 then I'll pay the extra to upgrade for the month and then downgrade recognizing there is a downgrade fee.

For it to be online, NBC decided that a viewer needed to have a subscription to CNBC and MSNBC. A cable/sat subscription to NBCSN is not required even though there are events that will be primary on that channel (likely because it would have drastically reduced the eligible online list and cause a lot of bad publicity).

This is why AT200 works online without NBCSN.

There is no good reason why Dish did not get its act together and got the soccer on this morning. And then, even more Dish subscribers could have seen the game.

Anyone who is interested in the USA/FRA women's match can watch the reply at 7:30pm pacific on the NBC soccer channel.
