On Demand Issues

I have not found this issue anywhere but I thought I would try it here and see if anyone else has had the same issue. I recently upgraded to the Directv with Tivo DVR (the THR-22). I had the old Directv with Tivo DVR a long time ago before having to settle for Directv DVR after the Tivo one died but was excited at the chance to use Tivo's software once again.

I have been able to download On Demand shows from only two channels thus far - Food Network and HGTV. I have tried downloading shows from at least 25 other networks and when I click on the show, I get the following message "Home Premiere Not Available" "Home Premiere movies are not available on the DIRECTV-Tivo DVR." These are channels that I know I have in my current package - like Cartoon Network, ESPN, E!, etc.

I had a very unproductive half hour call with Directv Support where I spoke to a supervisor who pulled out his spec sheet and basically told me its the Tivo software that is causing the problem.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is there a workaround or am I just screwed when it comes to the On Demand content?

Thanks to all who respond.

I downloaded an HBO on demand program, and that worked fine. Have not tried others.

Looks like Tivo's software isn't all that exciting. :sure:
Somewhere I read a a user who said there was a bug on the thr22 pulling the right network settings from the router and the parameter wasn't enterable via manual config either. I lost track of what setting wasn't being read correctly and why it works on most THR22 and but not all. Perhaps post your network settings the THR22 is reporting.

the discussion revolves around the Broadcast address to Tivo pulls.
The settings received by the DHCP
IP Address: 192.168.2.15
Gateway Address: 192.168.2.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Broadcast Address: 192.168.2.255
DNS address: 192.168.2.1

I tried manually entering the setting using these
IP Address: 192.168.2.25
Gateway Address: 192.168.2.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Broadcast Address: 192.168.2.255
DNS address: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google DNS)

Both produce the same results. I even tried just plugging it directly from modem and bypassing the router just in case in was something on the router causing the problem.

There has to be something wrong with my setup if others are getting On Demand on the same box.

If it helps, I tried 3 different channels for On Demand and they all worked for me. I had previously tried USA but also tried Cartoon and ESPN since yours didn't work. These 3 worked for me.

But, most of the On Demand doesn't work for me because either I don't have the channel in my package or its one of the 1100 Cinema channels. See my thread about that here:

I suggest you make sure these channels are in the channels you receive list. I removed the on demand channels from mine and could not download until I put them back in.

I wish that were the case. I checked, and all channels were in my channels I receive list because I had not touched since installation.

Just out of curiosity, how soon after installation did you start using the On Demand?
It is fixed. Finally talked to a Tivo tech specialist at Directv. It turns out there is an On Demand switch on their end that was not turned on for my account. Once it was turned on, everything worked. Thanks again to all who responded. It knew it had to be something weird since no one else had reported this issue anywhere on the Internet.
Scruffy, are you able to use On Demand now for movies on channel 1100?

I can't and the D* CSR said it wasn't possible. I'm hoping the CSR was wrong. Thanks
I was able to start downloading Footloose (the 1984 version) accessing it through Channel 1100 under Dance Flicks.

I would suggest calling Directv and making sure they put you through to the Tivo support team. They don't hold the same hours as the regular support team, so try calling them earlier. The woman I spoke with was well versed in the Tivo box and had her own Tivo box to test things out on while on the call. The previous CSRs I spoke with had no clue at all.
Scruffy, I spent well over an hour today on the phone with D* talking with a couple CSRs and a supervisor.

They all insisted that On Demand Cinema Movies are NOT compatible with the THR22. You can use On Demand for shows and movies which appear on channels in your programming package - you just can't use On Demand for the 1100 Cinema series movies.

I realize this conflicts with what you said and I explained your circumstances to them too - but they said it just isn't possible.

I tried to ask for a Tivo Specialist but they didn't admit to having any. The supervisor I spoke to did have access to a THR22 and she tried to replicate my error ("Home Premiere movies not available on DirecTV Tivo") but after she tried that was when she emphatically said it isn't possible.

I give up.

I can successfully retrieve shows through On Demand on channels I receive, as I mentioned, I just can't get anything in the "DirecTV Cinema" section from the On Demand menu.

PS: I tried the 1984 version of Footloose and I cannot get that.
