I haven't seen any messages talking about power usage. I see people asking if it's better to leave the box off or on when not in use. Functionally, there doesn't seem to be a difference. So that left me wondering, while off, was there any energy savings?

I finally plugged the box into a meter and I have to say there is hardly a difference. I tested it while the box was recording a program. While turned on, it went between 38-39 watts. While off...37 watts steady.

So the question is...do you like the lights? :new_smili

I've also seen a temperature difference between on and standby. After a day in standby, the power is 115 (I keep a USB-powered fan on it). After 3 hours of average watching, the temperature is usually 118-119.

Thanks for doing this. I've been wondering about that.

Something in my house is using WAY too much electricity - not that I thought it was the HR20, but the thought was there about how much energy it was using.

That's what I was talking about...when in standby, you save ~1-2 watts. LEDs use very little power.

Also, it uses the same wattage whether it's recording or not. I was recording a lot last night, so I had to wait until today to look.

Here in South FL Air conditioning is 65% of my house's energy bill. pool pump, sprinkler pump come in a close second to the cloths drier. Flowed by hot water heater. I have a four person household. The oven can use alot of juice if you use it a lot.

I have a 700 and a 500 watt receiver. I was surprised. The 500 watt uses about 50-55 watts. I gave it some low volume audio from my computer and turned it all the way up and it only used 55 watts. The 700 watt receiver used between 60-70 watts (could only test that one with the audio from the HR20, co I couldn't push it all the way lol).

I do have separate subs and I did not test those (yet).

You mind if I ask how many Kw Hours a month you are using.

We are current using between 32-40 in a 3 person household + baby. We were using 20 in the same house when we first moved in.
