That drive is likely to be pretty well done with after many years of whole home DVR usage. Kind of like trying to use up the last cup of nine year old gasoline.

Probably not a good idea to start using it elsewhere.

It could be good for anything, just find a video in Internet how-to-open-HR34;
after the HDD removal, run some diags on it after pulling SMART data and after tests [gsmartcontrol is one of the programs]

Agreed. The drive is trash. First off, its an AV drive, so its slow (even by hard drive standards), second its beat up and third its small. 4th who even uses hard drives anymore? ssds are cheap now.

I would think a DVR would seriously shorted the life of an ssd. The DVR is Always saving the stream (buffer) 24/7 So it's pretty much writing to the hard drive 24/7 in a poorly ventilated environment.

I just buy a cheap WD Green drive. I usually get bout 6 years out of em.

Even if the drive weren't trashed, with the price of SSDs today, what would you possibly use this for that would make sense to save the few bucks?
