to go with a hr20-700. i'm simply looking for extra recording space. i see positives with the seagate having the 5 yr warranty and the firewire option for my mac (if i use it there later on). i see positives with the acomdata with the smaller size & lower price. plus all my externals for my mac are acomdata, and have worked well there.

Unless you can keep that enclosure in a cool environment 24/7 it will get too hot and freeze up. You're better off paying a little more and getting one with a decent fan. The preferred case is the Antec MX-1 or similar for dvr use. I started out with the FAP too.
