I know it shouldn’t matter but has anyone had any issues with running their equipment sideways or upside down? Tempted to run a HR24 and HR34 sideways. Anywone know of any heat issues ETC I should look out for?

I don't think the HR24-200 has active cooling for the entire box. It just has a CPU fan. I might be reluctant to block any air vents on that one.

The others have a fan drawing hot air out of the box. They should be OK on their sides.

It is also possible to stand something on its side yet not block the vent holes.

Putting 1" spacers between the HR and the platform would work. I have 20-700s stacked and they run cool. One of them is running at 113 degrees. I can't quite explain that. I know the EARS and EADS HDDs will cause the 20-700s (at least mine) to run at 118 degrees (down from the normal running temps of ~ 125 degrees, but 113 degrees? Can't remember what model HDD it's got inside it. I've got six HRs that I own, all with 2TB WD drives in them, but I forgot to note the model numbers of the HDDs (naturally).

I've been running an HR22 on it's side for a couple of years. The way I figure it is with the vent holes on the side that hot air would rise through the top and suck air in from the bottom (as long as the bottom wasn't blocked by sitting directly on a flat surface)

I guess if I do stand it up I should provide a way for air to easily reach the bottom. I assume other the heat that is really the only thing to be concerned with. not like the electronics are going to have an issue.

Thanks everyone for the feed back

The only fan I recall seeing in the HR20-700 is the one to the right of the HDD enclosure. I dont believe I've seen any models that have chassis fans at least from the 1st looks that I remember seeing pics of.

I've never seen an HR with two fans. Haven't seen the insides of all of them, but...
