Hi,

Can I multiplex/diplex an OTA signal with my basic cable signal?? I still have basic cable and want to run only 3 wires to the HR20 (2 sat in, OTA) and still split the basic cable signal out of the ota.

Thanks!!

I would think you can. If you go to your tv turner and not through the hr20. But we wont know till we get the off air working. Been trying to think of why they dont want us to use the thing?

No, the frequencies overlap. You'd have to get a stacker/destacker which is really expensive.

I believe it would be impossible to play basic cable through the HR20 because it will only play ATSC signals. NTSC(basic cable) will not work. Or, I could be smoking crack again. I don't know.:D

If you put a low-pass filter on your basic CATV cable and a high-pass filter on your OTA cable, you should be able to combine them. You want the cut-off frequency for both filters to be the base of the UHF channels, which is about 470 mhz. Of course this means that you'll get no cable channel above that frequency, which is channel 65. (Cable channel 65 = OTA UHF channel 14) Here's a nice frequency chart:

I am interested in doing the same thing. Low-pass filters are easy to find, like this one that blocks all cable channels above 60:

However, I'm having a hard time finding a filter that passes only the OTA UHF frequencies. Ideas?

I was not going to feed the HR20 the catv signal, just the ota (when working) and send the catv signal to the plain ole tv tuner as a backup in case of rain fade. I only get the very basic cable package.

Thanks

This is the sticking point. The B band at 250-750MHz overlaps the OTA and CATV frequencies. The workaround is to take the B Band Converter off of the DVR, change the genders on its connections, and move it farther up the coax. It converts the B Band frequencies out of the OTA/CATV range so a diplexer can be put in after the BBC. The BBC is not weatherproof though.

I think the band B is only activated on the one-of-four feeds if the proper control signal is pumped up that feed when HR20 is requesting a channel on the Ka sat.

This allows the legacy capability to use old sat receivers and allows diplexing with OTA TV.

You can't diplex on the HR20 coax line since it can ask for Ka with B-band downconversion.

As to mux'g cable and OTA. Most VHF/UHF diplexer have 213 Mhz and 450 MHz as their low pass and high pass corners. If you are only interested in the VHF cable channels and UHF OTA channels this will work. Try to find a double section high rejection diplexer which will give more isolation.
