I'm currently in the Kirksville/Ottumwa DMA for which Dish does not offer locals. Just to the south of Macon county is the Columbia/Jefferson City DMA and just to the east is Quincy/Hannibal, both of which have locals on Dish (and "soon" to be in HD).

I can receive HD signals from locals in all three DMA's OTA, but since I can't get my locals through Dish, I don't get programming data in the EPG. It's frustrating to be "on the edge" of a DMA that doesn't get locals...

My question is this: If I moved, say, 8 miles to the east of my present location into the Quincy/Hannibal DMA and received those locals through Dish, would the EPG also show programming info for locals received OTA in the other DMA's?

My goal is to improve my antenna setup to receive ABC from Columbia and NBC and CBS from Quincy and be able to use my DVR on all three OTA channels without having to set manual timers. Is this possible?

Note: Current zip code is 63552.

I'm pretty sure you are only entitled to receive guide data from one DMA.

If you "move" from DMA_0 (whose locals are not carried on Dish) a few miles down the road into DMA_1 whose locals are carried on Dish, and subscribe to locals via Dish, then the program guide data will show up both for the OTA locals you get in DMA_1 and any other locals you can pick up from DMA_2 that are also carried on Dish. The only thing you wouldn't get guide data for would be the OTA locals from your original DMA_0, the ones not carried on Dish. I am in this exact situation; I get guide data for OTA locals from a market different from the one I pay Dish for locals from (for?....whatever).

And then you'll be able to use all the handy features of the smart timers on those OTA stations with guide data.

After thinking about this one I think that once E* activates your guide data it can't tell if its OTA or dish so yes I think it would work for adjacent DMA's. I may be wrong though.

I just posted something about this in the the OTA thread for my DMA (Raleigh)...

The other night I was receiving a channel about 75 miles away from me for a few minutes. Surprised the heck out of me with my makeshift indoor antenna, but weather must have been just right for a few minutes there.

Anyway, I noted that the channel did eventually populate with EPG info even though it is from another DMA.

I suspect that as long as you subscribe to locals, have a dish pointed to where Dish has those locals uplinked, and you can receive them OTA, that you will see EPG info if Dish has uplinked EPG info. I can't prove it for all markets or channels though.

I live in a market serviced by Dish and I get OTA from the next market. Guide info for both markets appear. I have had this from the first day I got a 622.

Me too I have locals from E* but watch the DMA locals to the west in the adjacent DMA. I get the EPG data too even for the subchannels og the local PBS ststions. I have also set timers to record some of the the programs occasionally, in the adjacent DMA.

Is there someone at Dish Network to contact to get guide info added for a channel? One channel I pick up via OTA from an adjacent DMA only displays "digital service" in the guide. Dish network does not carry that channel (WICD in Champaign, IL), however they do carry the other ABC station in that market which is owned by the same company. I assume that the reason Dish only carries one of them is because of bandwidth and not contractual reasons. When I called Dish they said I only get OTA guide data for the local channels in my DMA, from reading this thread I know that it is not the case.

Please help.

has nothing to do with dish. sometimes i have channels that say that; a guide update fixes the problem.
