I finally broke down and replaced my 3LNB with a slimline for my HR20-100 and am having a problem setting it up for subchannels. I want to use my outdoor antenna for one HD OTA channel not in the DTV guide. It is the only OTA channel I can receive. However, when I put in a zip code for OTA reception, I no longer receive the other subchannels from the satellite. It seems to be all OTA or all satellite feed for subs. Is there a way around this? If not, I can no longer get the satellite subs at all when I reboot. They don't show on the guide. Which reset option should I use if I have to give up OTA? Thanks

Is your OTA antenna connected to your HR20? If it isn't (as I suspect), you won't see any OTA channels (even with the correct ZIP code).

Know that you can't feed OTA through the dish like you used to be able to do with the Phase III.

My OTA antenna is connected. The issue is that I am over 100 miles from the local (Seattle) and cannot get OTA with my antenna. The OTA station I can get is in a different direction. At this point I'm ready to give up on OTA if I could get the guide to show the subchannels, which it does not.

sat channels don't have subchannels..
to get that one station listed just select a zipcode close to where it is in OTA setup.. then unselect all the other channels..
also the ota channels should have a black highlight..
make sure you have either "all channels" or at least "channels I get" selected in guide favorites..

Yesterday, while setting up, I was able to get the local NBC station (Channel 5) in MPEG-4. The guide also showed 5-1 and 5-2, and I was able to receive both of those as well, without the OTA antenna, but off the satellite. Today, after trying to get OTA and then giving up and resetting, the guide shows only 5, and not 5-1 and 5-2 as it did yesterday. My question is, how do I get those back?

D* doesn't normally carry sub-channels. The only time D* uses -1 for sat channels in when you have a part time HD signal like Regional sports networks that are only doing their games in HD. I don't know of any way you would be able to see 5-1 and 5-2 other than having the OTA setup with an antenna.

Which is it? You either get OTA or you don't. If you don't get OTA, you don't get to watch subchannels.

As far as I know, DIRECTV doesn't offer subchannels via satellite in the continental U.S. (CONUS) so if you were able to watch them (versus just seeing them in the guide), you're getting them OTA. If all you want is to see what is in the guide, you can enter in a proper Seattle zip code.

This doesn't make sense. I'm in Seattle and can assure you that DirecTV does not provide any of our local HD subchannels, such as the 5-2 WeatherPlus channel.

If you're 100 miles away from Seattle I don't think any antenna is going to pull in the Seattle locals.

I have an OTA antenna, and my Guide shows three entries for Ch 5 ....
KING5 for the DirecTV HD channel
SE5 for the DirecTV SD channel
5-1 for the OTA HD channel

ok, maybe the sunspots were just right. The zip code, 98281, is 100 plus miles from Seattle, on the Canadian border. The antenna was pointed north to Vancouver, for the CBC HD channel. The chances of picking up 5-1 then, are mighty slim, but perhaps, due to weather, sunspots, or whatever, I did.

You won't be able to get the CBC channel OTA anyway as the HR20/21 do not have an "OTA scan" mode. It will only show you OTA channels in the guide that DirecTV has loaded up and a Canadian station I highly doubt will be in the guide data. Never know though, any other border people know if CBC from Vancover is in the guide data?

No, it's not in the guide (no surprise there) so I put in an east coast zip which carries channels on the same frequencies. The guide is wrong, but at least I can watch and manually record. OTOH, my replaytv does include the Canadian channels, since they are local to me.
