OTA Chicago NBC, invalid guide data?

825 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  monetnj
I currently have a HR10-250 and a HR20 that are unable to tune to 5-1 in Chicago. The TVs themselves are able to tune to it with their built-in tuners.

I read somewhere that the DirecTV receivers obtain the frequency for the OTA channels from the guide data. Is anybody else experiencing this? Is DirecTV sending the wrong frequency down the receivers rendering them unable to tune 5-1?

OTA NBC Chicago is fine... via my HR20s
I just tuned it in.

The HR10-250 doesn't use the guide data frequency mapping to get OTA
The HR20 does.

WBBM-DT Chicago, now that is a different story..
I guess it is time to go play with the rabbit ears. I live directly downtown and can see the antennas on both the Sears Tower and Hancock but am unable to keep my Zenith Silver something or another positioned so that I can receive all channels.

I have an easier time with the crappy antenna DirecTv gave us in our attic in Barrington (20ish miles a way).

Oh well.

That is the problem with directional, and UHF.

You may want to considering getting a different "omni-directional" UHF antenna.

Is that right about the HR10-250? I wasn't able to get 11-1 in NY on mine for almost 2 weeks until Wednesday, just like the HR20 owners, because of the guide data issues D* was having. I thought the only difference between the HR20 and HR10-250 was that the HR10-250 could do a scan of OTA stations and get a duplicate 11-1 without any guide data that allowed tuning of the station. The HR20 doesn't have that function.
