I know there have been several threads about OTA dropouts but I don't think I've seen this observation posted before.
I record Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy every Thursday from my OTA tuner. I've checked the timer and it is definately from OTA channel. I made it a weekly timer from the specific channel because I had to do it this way to prevent it from recording the SD channel as well. I don't have local HD from Dish anyway and the programs are definately in HD. So there is no doubt that I'm not getting my SD and HD channels mixed up.
What I have noticed is that if I am watching Live TV on the channel, I get constant dropouts. The signal goes from about 85 down to 40 and cuts out about every 5 minutes or so. But I watch the recordings from the channel every week and the recording never drops out. These shows are on back to back so it's 2 solid hours of no dropouts which never happens when I watch the channel live. I haven't tried watching the program while it's recording and then comparing it to the DVR recording later. I'll try that this weekend.
