I just recieved the HR21 as a replacement for a dead HR20 and there no where to plug in the off air antenna. Is there any way to use our off air antenna with the HR21?

Thanks, Rob

need to get the am-21 addon for it.
There is a add-on unit (AM21) that adds OTA tuners to the HR21.

Since you had your HR20 replaced you may be able to get DIRECTV supply you one for free if you call and ask. The AM21 is normally $50.
Where can I get an AM21?

DIRECTV and solidsignal.com. There are probably other places too but I am not sure.
when calling directv they may tell you that you need to pay for it, get next level involved and more than likely they'll credit you. this is because the unit they sent did not have same functionality of old one.
I went through this a few weeks back.

+1

Keep asking the CSR for a free AM21, since you had OTA functionality before.

If necessary ask them to consult with a supervisor.

It took several attempts. I had to keep explaining what the AM21 is used for. After putting me on hold three times, she finally came back and said "...OK, I found it...and it's free."
Is there any chance you can run basic cable through the HR-21?

Negative

No.

The AM-21 is an off-air digital tuner.

It will only receive and decode ATSC signals on channels 2-69. (Soon to be 2-51)

Then it will pass those services it sees on to the HR-21, only if D* has guide data for them.

It will not decode digital QAM used by cable operators, nor analog cable.
AM-21 is on it's way from D-TV, no charge of course.
Any way to find out what stations DirecTV supports in the guide for the AM21 in Moultrie, GA? Zipcode 31788. DirecTV does not supply locals here, so I'll have to get an AM21 when I upgrade to the HR series.

Yup.

D* gets guide info from TMS (Tribune Media Services)

Their web portal is zap2it.com. Surf there, and whatever digital stations they have listed should also be in D*'s OTA database.
