OTA Loss of Revenue

So how much money do you think turning OTA on will cost DirecTV? If you subscribe to LIL via satellite, will you drop them when you confirm that you get OTA locals well enough to record or will you keep your SAT LILs?

Just curious. My OTA signal (Erie, PA) is terrible and has NO HD, so I'm not going anywhere. I probably won't even hook up an antenna.

HD LILs are free, so this thread makes no sense.
D* has sold me three recievers with integrated OTA. H10, H20, and now the HR-20. I purchased these specifically so I could do both OTA and SAT. I'd be willing to bet I'm not the only one who has purchased these recievers with this in mind.
Negligable...

There is one cost: Locals... that covers both SD and HD Locals
It is part of the most common packages now (you can save a $1 or $2 if you opt to remove all of your locals)

So for the few homes that only one receiver, or have all HD recievers...
SD Locals are still necessary on those "other" systems.

Derrr... brain fart. I was thinking back to when they used to charge extra for them. Derrr. Or, in Homer language, "D'oh!"

-2 for temporary absolute stupidity.

Less than any additional revenue from customers that would leave if they didn't have OTA or wouldn't buy in the first place.

I guess you need LiL to get the HD at no additional charge (the SD rate), so we are talking about $5 a month versus about $80 minimum per customer if they leave completely. So, that would mean they could have 16 folks drop LiL before they lose more than one customer not buying or dropping D* for Cable or E*.

Ah, the good old days where all of the local channels were sent down on the CONUS beam from 101, so you could hack the receiver to see all of them.

Not that I ever did that... :D

Sigh... yes, out-of-market "locals" are especially handy when your own locals are all carrying the exact same coverage of some major local weather event or refinery fire, or police chase, or school shooting, or...

I've often wondered how big their signal piracy problem was at its peak. I know D* spent a blue bazillion to finally address it. Several megabucks just in postage to send out new cards.

I'm going to take the 5th on that one...

Yeah, I had a very close brush with DirecTV's SI group. They wanted $3500 or they were going to sue. Luckily my uncle had a contact high up in GM that was able to get them to back off, but it sure did suck for everyone else.
