Hey guys,
Here's a real head-scratcher from Twin Falls, ID. A good buddy of mine has an H20-x and an HR20-700 with a Slimline, no multiswitch, and a rooftop antenna for OTA - each with its own OTA line to each receiver from the antenna.

Recently the NBC affiliate in Boise, ID (KTVB where I currently get my OTA), added a repeater of some sort (as part of their DTV by 2/09 compliance) in the Twin Falls DMA. They did this in time for the Olympics, so my buddy re-ran his OTA setup on the H20 and sure enough, KTVB and its subchannel, along with 2 other previously un-added subchannels, showed up and were immediately added to the Guide for a total of 13 OTA channels and subs in the Twin Falls market.

Yippee - so he went to do the same on the HR20-700 - no love. Previous 9 channels only and no detection of 4 new channels. Reran setup, deleted and reran setup, entered secondary market zipcode etc etc - still no love. 4 phone calls with CSRs etc.

I even had him swap the box locations. H20 at swapped location has all 13. HR20 at swapped location still has only 9.

Only other thing I can think of is:

1. Overnight unplug and rerun setup
2. Wipe the drive and rerun setup
3. Exchange the box (which potentially opens up can of worms with replacement receiver)

He has the PP, yet DirecTV refused to send a tech out for free, claiming the problem was not "Satellite-related", but that's a whole nother story.

Any ideas?

It is indeed:

terms and conditions set forth herein.

What is Not Covered: (1) Incidental or consequential damages; (2)
Intentional acts or criminal acts by you, damage from accident, abuse,
misuse, introduction of foreign objects into the product, unauthorized
product modifications or alterations, failure to follow the
manufacturer's instructions, third-party actions (fire, collision,
vandalism, loss, theft, etc.); (3) Accessories, including antennas;

Yes thanks got that part Mertzen. From what I can tell this has nothing to do with the antenna.

What I'm looking for is ideas related to the box, unless you think it is, in fact, the antenna.

EDIT - i.e. not "Satellite-related", rather "Satellite Receiver related" ;)

How do those KTVB channels show up in the guide? Are they KTVB-2, -3 etc? If so, the station and/or Tribune needs to add those channels to the main list. Same thing if they show up as something else. The HR2x go off just wants available in the guide data, while the H20 goes off what it can find on its own. Basicly, it's not a hardware problem, its a lack of guide problem.

The HR20s (and the HR21/AM21 combination, for that matter) do not scan for available OTA stations, instead there is a downloaded list of stations based on the local zip code entered when doing the OTA setup. Until that local station provides the changed channel information to whomever prepares that list for the HR20, the list of OTA channels will not be updated.

I do not have an H20, so I cannot be sure but possibly it is different and it does scan for actual OTA signals.

Ok this is huge RobertE.

I did not know each box retrieved differently. Lemme get the channel numbers as they appear in the H20 guide. Be right back

Thanks!

Yupper - that was it. :)

On his H20, these 4 "unadded" channels are all "Regular Schedule".

This of course is a critical detail he neglected to share with me

He's on the horn to get KTVB to add guide data for those channels.

They are 7-8 and 7-9 coming from KTVB (here in Boise they are 7-1 and 7-2).

Thanks guys. You rock.

I told my buddy, "Oh lemme get you an answer - should take about 5 minutes"
