It is really a marketing decision on use of satellites and bandwidth that they made about two years ago - D* pushed forward to be able to provide HD lils (which are by far the most viewed channels in EVERY market) before they opted to increase the HD national channel capacity. They are far and away ahead of DISH in providing HD locals.Augmont said:Can someone tell me why E* offers HGTV, Food Network, NFL Network, and Nat. Geo. in HD but not D*? Does E* have an exclusive for a certain time?
D* will also be far ahead of DISH in capacity to provide HD nationals in the VERY near future as well, as DIRECTV10 will be launching and should be operational by end March of 07.
Bottom line, today NEITHER provider has available bandwidth to offer everything, and if they both offered the same thing - that would make NO SENSE AT ALL. They obviously each made a decision to roll out programming differently and let us subs choose whatever best fits our needs.
