The Outdoor Channel announced the results of its first ratings survey from Nielsen Media Research. The network, which now reaches nearly 15 million cable/DBS households, earned a rating of ".5" in the male 25-54 demographic for its signature programming block, "Tuesday Night Pursuits." The block as a whole delivered an average of 56,000 households, according to the April Nielsen report. Other notable numbers from the recent report include a .2 average and 26,000 delivered households in prime time (Monday through Sunday 8-11 p.m.) and .3 on Sunday mornings with 37,000 delivered households (Sunday 6-11 a.m.).

It maybe a nice channel geting good ratings in the sample they found, but that maybe not enough for the channel to survive. A channel with original programming has to stay profitable.

I wouldnt be surprised if they count all 8 million Dish homes, even when all 8 million Dish subs dont take AT 150 or Outdoor alacarte.

I watch it on C Band because it is not offered on D* and I really like it. I especially like The Texas Trophy Hunter show and Kingmasters.

As far as profitability goes, it seems that with as many product placements as they have in the actual shows that they should be doing fine.

Since we are on the Outdoor topic, I wonder when and if ESPN will launch their own outdoors network. It seems they have the rights to a lot of outdoor sports and have the money to create some great programming. I think an ESPN Outdoors would be rather nice.
