I would like to mount a TV on our patio and use our DVR and Receiver in our family room to power it.

This is what I have in the family room:

HR20-700 DVR
Denon AVR 3801
Toshiba DLP

I am thinking of getting a 1x2 hdmi splitter from Monoprice to run a feed to the new LCD TV that will be mounted on the patio.
We already have outdoor speakers on the patio that are hooked up to the Denon on its 2nd channel, so the sound is taken care of.

My main question is, what is the best way to control the DVR and Receiver while out on the patio? The patio is only about 30 feet away.

1. Can you use IR and RF at the same time on the DVR? ( I could get a spare Directv remote to use outside in RF mode)
2. For the receiver (its about 11 yrs old - still works great), I am assuming a RF extneder or IR extender, but I may just upgrade and get a new receiver that I have seen that allow for control via an Ipad or Iphone.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Best options will be to use a second RF remote to control the receiver and you'll also be able to control the TV's power as well.
You could also use iPad app as a remote if your HR is networked to your home

1. No
2. Just get a Next Generation extender and stick the xmitter battery in the DirecTV remote, less than $40. iPad/iPhone control is cool, but seems like overkill just to control volume.
