Packages and grandfathering

Today I went up to the DirecTV website to add the 2 for 1 Showtime\Starz package, and I was forced to go off my grandfathered Total Choice Plus package. I went with the Plus HD DVR for 72.99. Onscreen it ended up adding to $8 more for the same channels. I had to call to get a redundant DVR fee taken off, reducing the packing to just a $2 increase. My question is, does this sound about right ? I don't like it much, paying $2 extra a month for the same package I had before, but it's a lot better than the initial $8 they had me at.....

It may be too late in your case, but if you have a grandfathered package (I have TC+) you need to call in to add premiums. I add the Sports Pack every October and remove it every April for college hockey season, and they can do this over the phone if you have a grandfathered package.

While they *should* be able to give you your package back, so to speak, they may not be willing to do so unless you escalate. They really should make it clear on the website when you add premiums that you can keep your grandfathered base package if you do your adds over the phone.
I don't care, I actually would rather have a current package so it's not such a PITA making changes online. I was just questioning if the price increase and my assumption that the channels are the same is correct.
I have total choice plus as well and it is about $2 less than choice extra. The channels are exactly the same.

BTW, your name sound familiar. Where did I here this name before??
Ah, thanks for the feedback. I don't know, but the name is not that uncommon, oddly enough.

TC+ comes with CBS College Sports, and not with Choice Xtra. Back when the new packages were released, that's the only difference I remember being discussed.

Are there others?

Is that why I get this channel?
Pretty sure... notice any others we "shouldn't" be getting when compared to Choice Xtra? I think that's the only one.
Oh, Jeff be aware, that unless something changed this month, you actually pay 23 a month for the promo and then starting the second month you get a 11 dollar rebate. I just got done fighting (I lost) with them over this because my bill was too high, but she told me thats how the promo worked.
Well, they conveniently forget to mention that. I questioned it on the phone, and they told me there would be an $11 credit in the same month. Oh well, guess I will see.

My dad who is up in age has the old Select Choice package and was talked into switching to a new package. I called back a day later and talked to the retention dept and they were able to switch him back. Just be nice and explain your reason and they will probably do it.

Also, he has added the sport pack and locals to this package after it was no longer offered. They never made him change to a current package.

I've appreciated this thread - I learned that I receive another channel (CBS College Sports). I have a hard time figuring out/remembering what channels I get in the 600-RSN range.
