I set up the race tonight to record 1 hour past the stop time. However, the HR20 dutifully shut down after 4 hours instead of recording out to 5 hours. At least we were watching delayed, or I have a sneaking suspicion that I would have had no recording at all. It shows up as Partian in my history.

Has anyone else had this problem with padded recordings?

Yep...alot! I keep losing hockey games when I extend for a half hour or when I set them up manually.
Did you do it completely manually or use the padding function on a recording scheduled through the guide?

Padded recordings have not worked well for me at all. The trick someone else taught me for sporting events is to record the next show after your game is scheduled to end, instead of padding the recording. This has worked for me to date but is certainly not ideal

I have done that in the past too but it won't work if the program is on a special events channel such as 96 or 96. Generally there is no program after the game on these channels.

Strange thing is, it worked Sunday. I actually added the 1hr padding onto The Amazing Race as it was recording. It was about 8:15 and 60 Minutes was still on. I figured I'd try it since I was doing a backup recording on the Replay. I went in and was able to extend by 1 hour (really cool!). I already had Without A Trace padded for 1 hour and a backup going, so I figured I'd let it run. Lo and Behold both recordings worked great.

Another really cool feature I found by accident is that if you're watching something and decide 30 minutes into it that you would like to record it, it will record the ENTIRE show from start to finish, not just the portion after you hit the record button.

The past 3 sundays i've padded 60 Minutes by an hour, and all three times it only recorded an extra 10 min.

The first 2 I padded while 60 Minutes was already recording but this weekend I padded through the series link menu days earlier, same result.

I had the Office set to record 1 minute before and end 1 minute after. It would start recording and end "1 minute after" for a total recording time on 1 minute! This is not the way I thought it would work. Could they really mean the end times to be after the recording begins, not after the end of the show?

I scheduled two padded recordings on Saturday: Florida/Auburn and Penguins/Canes. The football game padded a few minutes, but not the hour that I asked for. The hockey game actually recorded less, rather than more (only saving half the game). Oh well, I made the mistake of pointing the feature out to my Tivo-perferring wife. Now I have to go back to recording the next show, which can be annoying when you have to record Real Sex after a boxing match on HBO.
