I'm noticing as I read thru todays stack of messages that many people had problems with recording partials or unwatchables. I have been out of town all week and just returned this afternoon. I took a look at the HR20's recordings list and while I didnt test anything other then 'the office'. I looked the history and it shows nearly every recording from Wed and Thursday as Partial. Nobody was home messing with the controls while any of the recordings were going on so it was strickly the unit working on it's own. I dont know if there are any issues yet as I have not viewed the programming but after reading thru many threads with the same problems with partials of Lost, The Nine, CSI(last night), Survivor, Heat Vs Bulls (tuesday), Jericho, and The Office. All of these are listed as either cancelled or partial.

I will post more once I get to view and see if there are any issues.

What I dont understand is why did this happen this week. I have been running good with the current FW and only Jericho was cancelled and didnt record (even though yellow recording light was on 2 weeks ago). Last weeks shows all recorded with issues.
By the way, using the Miami/FT Lauderdale MPEG4's.

It has been going on for the last two release.
Just seems lately either more people are finding the forums, or are sitting down to watch recordings of old.

I have only had 1 recording appear as partial... and I wasn't around when it happened... so I don't know if there was anything else to attribute to it.

Partial recording though are supposed to be resolved in the next software release.

Earl, for me it got a lot worse after the last update. I was pretty consistently losing 1 70s show and 2 Scrubs per day. (70s shows were "partial", Scrubs were black screen - unable to do anything) However since the "E" software went out, I'm losing things left and right. So far the list I've kept shows every single time it happens I have 2 things setup to record at the same time. I have lost at least 1 show (in addition to the 2 above) per day since the new software was installed.

In fact at this very moment I have Las Vegas and BattleStar Galactica set to record. I see Las Vegas in the list, not BSG. If I try to change channels, it shows me both tuners busy, one on Las Vegas and the other on "No Title". The latter does not give me the option to stop recording.

I've seen some of these in the past couple of weeks, but haven't checked the shows. They are all 30 minute kid shows that the kids only occasionally watch, so it hasn't mattered that much.

I finally got my second HR20 and AT9 dish installed last week, so I now have 3 DVRs recording most everything we watch (the third is our old R10, moved to the bedroom when we got the second HR20), so I figure even if one screws up, we should still have it somewhere. I'm glad to hear they expect to have it resolved next release. I have to say, ours has been very reliable aside from the partial recordings, and I don't know if those are completely unwatchable, but I've had less than 5 in the weeks I've owned it. I haven't checked the new upstairs unit to see if it is getting partials.

This happened to me tonight. The history shows a partial for Numbers and Men in Trees. I was home during the recording of Numbers and saw the little yellow light light up. We were watching something else so I didn't notice that it wasn't really there until after the show was over. Is there ANY way to recover these?

I got a partial recording of Numbers last night while watching (and recording)Law & Order at the same time. Tuesday night yielded partials of Standoff and House while I was simultaneously recording NCIS and The Unit. I've had other simultaneous recording work, so that's not what consistently triggers the partial recordings.

I sometimes think that some of these partials are caused by blips or temporary tweaks to the guide or glitches in the transmission. I've seen many freezes for a few seconds when viewing live TV. Maybe when this happens in a recording, it freezes and stops recording. I have no facts to support, just a theory.

Yeah I can confirm that dual recordings don't always cause a problem, I've had several that work just fine. Just that all of my partials seem to occur when 2 things are recording. I've yet to lose a show when it was the only thing set to record in that time slot.

I have had partials when it was the only show scheduled to record at that time period. The partial bug is rather random as is the unwatchable bug. This is an example of first the partial bug and then the unwatchable bug, it so happens that they were scheduled to record one after the other. http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=67998&highlight=unwatchable

Like I said last night, i didnt have time to view any of the programs, but after getting some time today to view a few, here is what i found. 7 minutes into 'The Nine' on ABC/Wednesday10pm for 4 minutes the sound was gone (but lots of clicking and popping), it cleared aftre that so not sure if it was a network issue. I have another recording of the show on the 250 so i can check that. Other than that, Jericho, The Nine, Office, and Lost all appear ok, even though the todo history shows them all as partials or cancelled. Quite Bizzare. There are a few other programs that i didnt get time to watch yet. Oh also, on the bulls Heat game on Tuesday, i set it to record the full nba game with a 1 hour pad. There was no pad at all, and it stopped at 1030pm, not that the outcome of the game was close so it didnt matter.

UPDATE: ***** The recording sound with The Nine was present on my 10-250 too so it was not a HR20 issue.

One thing interesting was, My 10-250 didnt record 7 shows and when i looked at history it said "Internal Error 4" This is the first time this ever happend. Anyone know what this error means? I rebooted the unit this evening to hopefully resolve this.
