Three weeks, and counting. That's how long I've had this problem with my HR-20. Hit pause, wait more than a hour or more, try to play it again, and get a complete system failure. Restart is the ONLY fix, and it ruins your show recordings and the show you paused. They have to know this glitch by now!

Any one else suffering with this problem, or am I the only one? If I have to put up with this crap for one more week, I'm going to cancel my service! It wouldn't be such a problem for me, but since I'm disabled, getting to the receiver to reset all the time is a real PAIN IN THE [Mod Edit: Language]!

Sure, "Just turn off the receiver if you're going to pause that long!" How do I know ahead of time if I'm going to need to pause more than an hour? Kids, dog, wife, PC, phone calls, mountain lions, coyotes, trespassers, etc. are a constant distraction and often needs immediate attention. Hit pause, and come back to it later was always a problem free action, but not anymore.

Since the last update, I've had this problem. I hope they're working on a fix for it, 'cause I'm really getting sick and tired of it!

I hope someone can offer some advice for this rather big problem. I haven't ever seen it or read of anyone that has. I assume you have spoken to D* regarding this, maybe a replacement DVR is in order. I sure hope you get this matter resolved, keep us posted.

I've always wondered what the DVR does with a super-long pause... I've only done it once, and granted I have an HR21... But I was in another room when it un-paused, and all of a sudden there was audio in the TV room, and I was like WTF? I forget I had paused it...

The DVR was new enough where I did not think to look at the buffer... But at the time I thought it was maybe because the show had changed (I never have re-visited this behavior, but your post reminded me of it).

Well good luck... It's been said before, but I'll say it again... D* should really clear the "known issues list" before roiling out new features, like the oh-so-important recording LED color change... Fix the bugs first!

Are you seeing this in recordings only? When were the shows recorded? There was a problem a week and a half back that has since been corrected. You may continue to experience this problem with those recordings. Are you seeing this with Live TV or something recorded from this week?

It's during recordings that it happens. The shows were recorded recently, the past few days. I'm not sure about live shows, yet. I'll give it a try, once I'm done watching my recordings (something I'm doing while I type this).

What NR does your HR20 have? 235 or 254? If you have 235 wait for 254, you should be getting it any day now.
Sorry, I don't know what this means.

I'm a "chronic long pauser," too, but I thankfully don't have this issue. I'm on a HR20-700 running the current NR.

Tip: I'll change the channel to clear the buffer, go back, & then hit record. This way it'll start where I left off.

I've seen it too (very infrequently) and a reboot is the only fix for me as well.

Runner is referring the the DVR software version which can be found in setup menu. You will either have "0x235" or "0x254"
Ah, OK. Thanks. I have 0x254, last updated July 16.

Don't pause the recording. Stop it with the stop button on the remote.

It's a few more clicks on the remote -- list, select program, resume -- but you should be able to restart where you left off minutes, hours, days, or weeks later.

Just started a "pause" on an HR20-700 that was in the midst of recording playback. This unit was auto-updated to 0x0254 on Tuesday. I'll try to report back in an hour or two on whether or not I can gracefully return to playback. /steve

I'm seeing this too.
"What I do is": pause live TV and then when I come back if a press of play [or two] doesn't remove the screen saver and start playing the show again, I press the six sec back button. This normally get things going again. If I press too many buttons, I can drive it into "never never land" and have to reboot.

Hmmm. I got different results than VOS and Guitar Hero. Maybe I needed to be paused longer? After 65 minutes of PAUSE, one click of PLAY cleared the screen saver and a second click of PLAY resumed playback uneventfully. Unlike VOS, but like Guitar Hero, I was paused during playback of a show in my PLAYLIST.

This is on my oldest HR20-700, installed in March of 2007. As I mentioned previously, it auto-updated to 0x0254 on Tuesday.

Actually, if you dump out of playback of a recorded show to live TV, the Previous Channel button will take you back.

I just paused live TV for more than two hours. Froze up, as usual. No response from the controller at all. Only a reboot from front panel will get it back to normal, but never corrects the problem.

Obviously, it's a big problem that needs correcting.

How long is the 'live TV' buffer? Two hours? Once that's past, it freezes, I guess. It never did this before.

The Live TV buffer is 90 minutes long .. has anyone else been able to duplicate this? I'll give it a try tonight. Guitar, what channel were you watching? I'll try to pause Live TV on the same channel.
