I was just checking out ebay and some guy is selling HR20s and telling people they will own them- no lease needed. They are brand new in the box. I would guess this guy is not being truthful or doesn't know D* leasing policy. Anyway he is getting others to bid well over $300 on these HR20s you can supposedly own.

What do you suppose D* will tell the people who get these HR20s on Ebay and try to tell D* that they own them??

I would agree with BonScott.

They will ask for the Vendor ID, and if they can not confirm that the full purchase price was paid...

I think they will be told, it is a lease.

But then bottom line... the HR20 is useless without DirecTV Service.
And in the next 6 months 300gb hard drives are going to be very inexpensive.

wont it be logic that another retailer is using a different medium to sell equipment to customers

Best Buy = $99 for R15
Circuit City= $99 also
online retailer = $94 or little less

wat the difference except retailer and the medium of sale

If he is an authorized reseller then you do have a choice of leasing or owning. I purchased mine for $299 and I specified lease or own when I activated the unit.

The bad thing about owning is that the HR20 only has a 90 day guarantee..
