I thought being that my reciever was now networked that I would no longer need a phone line for pay for view movies. I am getting a message when I go to by a movie that I should check my phone line. I plug the phone line back in and can purchase. Is there a way to buy PPV with just network connection or is a phone line needed.

Thanks
Slatts

You can use D*.com to order PPV, without the phone line.

I think the setting of the PPV limit that we (as customers) have is to set a high-end limit on the receivers using the Parental Controls. Is that what you're referring to?

There is also a "built-in" limit on the access cards, I believe, that sets a limit that cannot be exceeded without a "call-in" to the mothership to download those purchases made with the remote that are stored on the card until such call. We as customers, cannot manipulate that limit to the best of my knowledge.

How can you set your spending limit for PPV? I read somewhere this was able to be done or is that just when you are ordering with the remote that a limit is able to be set?
Good question.

My guess is, since you need to login to your account first on-line, that would be the control required. Unlike a remote that could be used by anyone that picks it up.

If you reach your limit often (it's usually set to $49.99 for IPPV's), you can get it raised (to a max of $200, iirc) if you call in. Usually $100 limit is good for just about everyone, unless you order every Wrestling, EliteXC, adult ppv's, etc....

You can call DirecTV and request that IPPV (impulse Pay-Per-View) ordering via remote be DISABLED on your account. I did. Now, no problems with visitors pressing the wrong button on the remote and sticking me with a PPV purchase or a sub to The Guide magazine or an off-the-wall-priced PPV wrestling match!

If I want to view a PPV, I can order via website (and nobody has my password).
