I just switched my phone and internet service to ATT u-verse. Now I'm not sure how to hook up a phone line to the dish receiver or even if it is necessary.

Its only necessary if you want caller id on the tv set or want to order ppv's and what not via the remote control.

Thats about it, theres no fees or anything for not being plugged in.

You can connect to your 722 via ethernet cable from a router (or switch). This also allows you to get PPV etc.
