I have had the HR20 since late September and have been experiencing most of the same issues as everyone else. I live in the Washington, DC area.

My biggest problem has been that I have been getting picture disintegration on my ABC affiliate. The sound continues normally, however the picture goes in various directions, sometimes for 5 seconds, sometimes for 30 seconds plus. The interesting thing about it is that it only occurs on the playback of shows on ABC. None of my other recordings off any other channels have experienced this.

Any thoughts on this one?

I live in the Washington DC area and also am seeing this with channel 7 (the local ABC affiliate). Someone else who gets it OTA says the problem isn't there - so it doesn't seem to be at the source. I've been noticing it 2 or 3 times in an hour (such as during last night's Lost episode). I did call DirecTV customer support (before I had the knowledge that someone who gets the OTA HD broadcast doesn't see these problems) and of course they blamed it on the source.

I assume that it happened to you during playback as well. I have not experienced it yet during live TV.

We talked about this in a different thread, but I too have been getting the picture breakup on ABC 7. My guess is it is something between the station and the conversion to MPEG4. I hope they fix it soon. Very frustrating.

I think I'm seeing the same thing(s) you're describing, most notably on ABC7, but I get it randomly on FOX5 as well, I can live with it for the most part, but it really torques the wife  (of course it hasn't happened during a game yet)

I see it in both recordings as well as live tv.

I haven't really watched anything live on ABC since getting the box (having had a Tivo for many years and don't usually watch much live TV anyway). Also the main show I watch on ABC (Lost) is on at a time I have to pick up my wife from school - so always end up watching it recorded. So can't attest to the live TV but so far I've observed this during playback 3 weeks in a row on Lost (the last 2 weeks of the new season as well as the previous week where they had the recap of last season). Also my wife attempted to watch the season premiere of Desperate Housewives which she recorded and it did it during that too. She's given up on the box for other reasons (closed captioning problems) and gone back to using our Tivo hooked to an SD box upstairs. I've only had the box for a little over 3 weeks so can't say anymore than that about this specific problem - other than it has occurred on everything the box has recorded in HD from channel 7.

Yep, another DC area member here and I have the same pixelation issue happening on ABC (channel 7). I'm now recording ABC shows to 3 different devices because of this issue... living room HR20, MCE HTPC box via OTA, and SD Tivo upstairs.

Has anyone called to get D* to fix this issue? or maybe get credit for it? My wife's about to toss this thing out the window.

I called both about this issue and the closed captioning issues. Both times they claimed it is not D* problem and it is the source! Kind of frustrating to get that kind of response. My wife's about ready to toss me out the window for getting this thing! Maybe I should keep calling to get some kind of credit - it might appease my wife some!

I'm in the DC market too and have been having this problem. I assumed it was an issue with the box and MPEG 4, but apparently not, since all of you are seeing it as well.

Makes sense since I usually only see it on ABC 7.

I'm more annoyed by the lip sync issue on NBC 4.

I'm in the Orlando market and have the same problem with our local ABC affiliate. It is only delayed/recorded programming (live TV went out with the VCR) and is only on that channel. Could it be something that ABC is doing? That seems suspicious.

Make sure you call D* retention and tech support. They allegedly keep track of those type of consistent problems.

Well, it happened again tonight and this time during the live broadcast. Not sure where to go with this. I do have an HDMI connection, but if that is the problem, it does not seem to affect any of my other MPEG4 channels.

I had it also last night during lost. Happened 3 or 4 times and one of them lasted a pretty long time. Frustrating during a show where you are supposed to watch every second. I have experienced it both during live and taped. Wife informed me that next week we will be taping it in SD.

After it happening the first week of Lost I've resorted to taping it in SD upstairs in the bedroom on my separate Tivo unit connected to an SD receiver. Watch it first in HD and then have to watch the SD version to see what was missed during these times. Last night did indeed seem to be worse than in the past - with that one near the end lasting almost a minute! It's kind of crazy to have to record something in SD as a backup because you can't depend on the HD broadcast, but that's what I've been doing.
