Picture problems with PVR 721

I am having problems with picture quality. I get artifacts, grainy picture and washed out color. I will even get grid lines.

I have a 50" Toshiba Cinema series projection TV. Purchased in December 01. Dish people & Satellite people think the TV is the problem, I am not so convinced. A Toshiba tech is scheduled for 10/02.

Recorded events are inconsistent in picture quality as well.

I have never had a satellite before and have had only cable.
Right now I get a better picture with analog cable than digital satellite.

Readings on sat 119 are in 90's, sat 110 is between 70 & 65 on transponder 21.

Has anyone heard about signal drop off with the 721. Dish tech said it is possible to loose 10% to 15%.

Has anyone had similar problems?

I am married so please help me stay married.

Get your TV calibrated - ISF tech would be best, but you can do alot with the Avia or Video Essentials DVD's

Even after that, since this is a large screen, HDTV ready set, DBS is not going to look the greatest. Quite a bit of what you are seeing is MPEG artifacts, plain and simplr, and the plain fact is that these show up more on a TV like yours than they do on a 27" analog only TV.

Thanks for the reply. I have done the Avia routine. I just can't understand why the cable picture is better if the signal strength is good. My thinking is that the signal is weak. Any way a tech is coming out to calibrate my TV tommorrow. Again thanks.
