I have been having pixelation problems on my HR20-100 for about a month. I thought it would be fixed after the the lock up problems that happened last week. I thought it may be related. The pixelation is a little better, but it is still there. It happens on my HD locals and maybe other channels as well. I watch a lot of locals, so I'm not sure about the others. I will be calling Directv about this again. I had called before and the tech suggested restarting, which I had done, and if that didn't work, restart after disconnecting my cables from my multiswitch and then restart while they are disconnected. Anyone else having these problems. I use Providence, R.I. locals.

we are having the same issue(s) with the LILs (99/103) ... Started about a month ago. We seem to start seeing the issues in the afternoon - for whatever reason. In fact a week ago, all of our LILs went OUT (771 error) for over 6 hours! Then mysteriously came back the next moreing when we checked. Very very strange. Our signal strengths are absolutley solid (high 90's) when things are working correctly. We had this all professionally installed 1 year ago (for the MPEG4s). Of course DTV was no help - they scheduled an $80 service call for tomorrow. I doubt that the tech will be able to see the problem first-hand since it is usually intermittent.

Failing LNB's can be temperature sensitive, go out during the heat from the sun and begin working after cooling off in the evening. Very hard to diagnose, be sure and bring this to the techs attention.

Please post back with your signal readings for each satellite's transponders (and both tuners if applicable). You'll find these readings under "Menu" -> "Setup" -> "System Setup" -> Satellite -> "View Signal Strength".

Fill in your readings for each satellite and tuner using these examples. A properly aligned dish will show 80-90s on most of the relevant transponders (although some will be low or zero):

Your signal strengths could not be better. Could very well be the receiver. I really, after seeing your sat readings have no suggestions. The tech might very well replace your DVR. Keep us posted. Maybe some more suggestions will be forth coming.

any trees possibly infringing in the LOS? does this happen on calm days or is it worse in windy days?
It's happened quite a bit tonight during very calm, dry weather on more than one local HD channel. At one point while watching a prerecorded local channel football game, it pixelated and then froze. I had to fast forward to get past it. I'll call Directv.

Oh, and there aren't any trees blocking it to the best of my knowledge.

Possible loose cable terminal connection, bad cable? Make sure all your terminals are tight (including HDMI if connected). Although, if it is just that 1 channel more than likely it is that 1 transponder being broadcasted by that particular station.

:eek2: DAMN, I wish I had those signal strengths (I bet most here would be jealous).

I have had the same problem. Army Wives, which I record in the middle of the night. was unwatchable last week. Numerous shows will suddenly pixilate. 99% of the time everything seems to be great, so I have attributed this to some problem at DTVs end.

If you watch a lot of recorded material, by the time you notice a problem it is way too late to check signal strength. Mine is always great when I check it, but who knows what it was when I made the recording?

I think a DVR problem would be more constant or progressively worse. This seems to be totally random.

I have been having the same problem. I live in the Baton Rouge, La. area and thought it was Hurricane Gustav related, but they came out and re-aligned and the problem is still happening. I guess I will call them once again. It just seems to happen at night between 8:00 till 11:00PM.

fwiw, I had an lnb causing irritatingly intermittent issues that were a bear to duplicate and troubleshoot.
I wonder if there is a humidity intrusion happening to you during this point where air temp starts to cool/condense.

I just got off of the phone with directv and they have elevated my technical support and supposedly sending out an expert to solve my problem. The tech I spoke to said it sounded like a dew/moisture problem with the LNB. I have much hope!

Mine was coroded connection out of LNB to RJ45 at Sat dish. I've read many posts over many months and more times than not it is LNB going bad (temp/weather have big effect) or connections. These are the intermitant probs/pixleation.

I'd say the next solution has been mis-alignment of dish....which the signal check from above will give you idea. This is more consistant signal probs on reception.

The phone techs and CSRs want to replace your box....steer them away from that to the above first. The reason they do not want to do the above is it costs them truck roll for tech service.

hmmm... maybe the corroded LNB/RJ45 connector is OUR problem as well. Our 103(b) is getting internittent drop-outs and 771 errors on the LILs. We have a serrvice call set for this afternoon, and currently, 103(b) on our H20 is all 0's. Over the past month, we noticed the droputs tended to occur in the afternoons, when the weather started warming up.

Why is this so sensitive NOW??? With our previous single or 3-LNB dish, we NEVER had this problem over years of installation of either dish & RJ45 connector.
