I am new to Dish (about 3 weeks now) and I have noticed that I am getting brief pixelization on random channels and random times on my Hopper. It usually last about a second and the screen gets distorted (part of the screen breaks up into blocks) and usually the sound breaks up. If I rewind I see the distortion.

I have also noticed it once with an on demand episode (Game of Thrones) with similar issues.

Is this normal? I did a diagnostic test and the signal strengths all appear good (green).

What troubleshooting can I do? It is random and I am not sure a tech would be around long enough to see it happen. Possible HDD issue? Planes flying over head - not flying really low though???

I ran dish pointer late last night and noticed the my reception numbers are in mid 40s to low 50s. Based on that Dish is sending out a tech today to check the dish alignment.

I'm having the same issue with my new Hopper. The thing that I have noticed is that it always happens at the top of the hour................ If by chance the pixelization does not happen there is a very short audio/video break (less than 1 second). I have gone back and "rewound" shows and the breakup is there in the recording. For some reason it seems the signal from DISH does this strange thing every hour on the hour.

This happens to me frequently. It happened at least a dozen times today while watching Mr. Hollands Opus on Dish On Demand and the same while watching North last night. It's happening a few times per half-hour show on [email protected] right now. It's particularly bad with Dish On Demand because the sound cuts out, the video pauses then garbles before getting back on track after 4-5 seconds. On sat TV it's very quick and the sound doesn't always go out.
